The Story of Christmas Story Book Set and Advent Calendar (Workman Kids)

I decided this year that I had had enough of meaningless chocolate advent calendars based on a tv programme and was looking for something that could become part of our family Christmas tradition. Was not a difficult to decision to buy this product after reading all the other positive reviews. It is a lovely item (though probably not great for very little children as cardboard can rip when removing books). Tells so much more of the Christmas story than usual and really puts it into a wider biblical context. My children haven't complained about not having chocolate calendars this year and are really enjoying reading them. Highly recommend.

Beautiful and detailed - each story is simply illustrated and quick to read. The tiny books are loved by small hands. A keeper.

Great alternative to chocolate and easy to follow version of the Christmas story. I purchased for my 4 year old who enjoyed hanging them on the tree after we read them together. I’ve now put it away ready to reuse next year!

A lovely (reusable!) advent calendar, that goes through all the story of Christmas. The booklets are very short, which allows even a very young child to listen daily to each aspect, without losing interest. Booklets have a loop on them, which enables them to be hung on a Christmas tree once read - another great idea.

I adore this and it will now be a family favourite at Chrismas for many years. My grandchildren aged 2 to 6 adored it; reading the story daily right up to Christmas Day is a great way to help children understand and really appreciate the story of Christmas, which is the story of the Nativity, the birth of baby Jesus. They loved getting each of the little books out daily and carefully putting them back (they are not normally so careful but seemed to know and respect this Book / Advent Calendar realising it is special). Well made quality product. Good customer care too.

Bought as an alternative to a chocolate advent calendar and they absolutely loved it! We use the books on a little Christmas tree in the bedroom, not on the main tree, so no worry if you aren't wanting your main tree up by then, a little tree works well to hang all the little books on! The books are a good quality but smaller children would need to be a little careful. The books follow the story with a little added extra but for children it's ideal! Beautiful advent calendar. Highly recommend!

The Story of Christmas helped get our children focussed on the story and meaning of Christmas this year. We do usually aim to get them an advent calendar that doesn't just supply chocolate or deliver pictures of snowmen, and this really bolstered that idea - the kids really looked forward to their turn to read out the day's story and hang it on the tree, and the books actually made great tree decorations. My only gripe (hence four stars rather than five) is that the story in the books was a little bit too creative in filling in the gaps in the gospel story - nothing that was "off message", but I'd have preferred a writing style that was clearer about which bits were made up. However, that's a personal preference - I'd still recommend this readily to anyone trying to keep the meaning of Christmas alive in their family.

I am so pleased with this. Roll on Christmas! Each little book is like a mini board book, so quite sturdy, and is beautifully illustrated inside and out in full glossy colour. The calendar itself is slightly more fragile, so supervision might be required to make sure it can be reused each year. My calendar was delivered in a padded jiffy bag, but sadly got bent in the post, so already sports some scars. The story is obviously a religious one, but told in such as way as to be accessible to children who have not been brought up as Christian but who enjoy hearing and learning more about the story of the nativity. The books are fairly short, for example the third book 'Mary' reads 'In the village of Nazareth lived a young woman named Mary. As a child she went with her mother to the Jerusalem temple, where she learned to pray and live a holy life. When she grew up, Mary was promised in marriage to a carpenter named Joseph, who loved her for her kind and generous ways and for the wisdom in her heart.' Each day covers a particular element of the story in roughly chronological order, so perfect if you want to coincide it with bringing out figures from a nativity set.

Missing day 8 kids got very frustrated as expecting it. Its a shame because the product is very special, however tried to contact seller and said wasn't responsible for it.

I bought this for my classroom to use every year and it’s so cute The books are all different sized and they have little stories about Jesus and other characters from the Bible There is enough books that I can get one student a day to hang one on our classroom tree The packaging was nice and they are definitely a nice addition for Christmas

We’ve used this Story of Christmas storybook and advent calendar as part of our holiday season, and it’s been a really special experience for our family. Each day includes a small illustrated book that walks through the story of Christmas in a way that’s easy for kids to understand and stay engaged with. The books are well-made, colorful, and thoughtfully illustrated. My child enjoyed opening a new book each day, and it created a nice daily moment to slow down and talk about the meaning of the season. I especially like that the books are small and come with strings, so they can be hung on the tree or stored neatly after Christmas. One thing to note is that the books are miniature, so younger kids may need help handling them, but that didn’t take away from the experience for us. Overall, this is a beautiful advent set and something I would absolutely reuse year after year.
