La Cafetière Coffee Maker Cafetiere French Press, Thermique Insulated 8-Cup, Steel, 1 L (1.75 pints)

I have 3 coffee makers each of a different design. I was attracted to the La Cafetiere Thermique because it combines the best features of a plunger-type coffee maker and a Thermos flask. Being made wholly of metal there are no glass components to break. Furthermore, the container vessel itself and its cap are double-skinned like a Thermos flask, which reduces heat loss thereby keeping the coffee hotter for longer. The specification states that the double-skin design retains heat 3X longer than conventional coffee makers. I have not put this claim to the test but I believe it to be true. The coffee maker is made wholly of metal, is sturdy, well made and not as heavy as it looks. It has a highly polished outer surface and brushed matt finish on the inside. The plunger and the diaphragm appear to be made of stainless steel. The mesh of the diaphragm is very fine, much finer than the diaphragm in my glass cafetiere. The metal diaphragm has proven to be a very effective barrier against coffee dregs. Making coffee follows the same procedure as for a conventional plunger-type cafetiere: add spoonfuls of coffee to the empty vessel, add hot water to within 1" of the spout and replace the cap with the plunger up, leave for 4 - 5 minutes before slowly depressing the plunger. Pour out the coffee, as required. This coffee maker is an '8 cupper' but as I prefer weaker coffee and larger cups I get between 3 - 4 cups from one filling. The La Cafetiere Thermique is very attractive and would grace any table. I do not know if the outer surface would tarnish with time but I imagine it would be easy to keep it clean and bright. Highly recommended.

Have been giving this heavy use for a few weeks now. Really good looking coffee pot; glad I splashed out and bought this one rather than the cheaper stainless steel insulated one I was also considering. Nicely made - unlike some cheap cafetieres which can feel flimsy or wobbly when you push the plunger down. Keeps the coffee nice and hot (particularly if you warm the pot with a splash of water first), pours well and keeps the coffee grounds out of your cup (again, unlike some of the cheaper cafetieres I have used in the past...). What more can you ask of a coffee pot? (Except maybe for it to bring you a biscuit..!) Overall, really glad I bought this.

We love this, and probably won't buy a traditional glass cafetiere ever again. The pros of this product are: - Keeps coffee warm for a lot longer than a traditional cafetiere - it's still drinkable up to an hour after it's brewed - It looks great - It has obviously been well engineered. The pouring mechanism is very clean with no drips - It's easy to clean, and feels a lot more robust in the sink than the glass cafetiere it replaced No cons from me. If you're in the market for a new cafetiere, whether you're accident-prone or not, I'd highly recommend this.

La Cafietere Thermique 8 cup is an elegant, solid, double walled, stainless steel item. Coffee keeps hot for 40 minutes, comfortably warm for some 15 minutes longer. Any coffee held warm for longer is likely to be too stewed to enjoy. The three part filter is very similar to that in the glass cafetieres. That's where the difficulty arises. Metal lower plate, metal mesh filter and metal top plate. On my cafetiere the mesh crinkled at the edge, allowing coffee grinds to escape. Steel mesh also makes a grating noise when the plunger is pushed down or raised. The Bodum equivalent of this cafetiere has a filter edged with a silicone ring that makes a smooth, quiet seal. Coffee pundits declare Bodum and La Cafetiere parts to be incompatible. I've successfully replaced the La Cafetiere original with a Bodum Replacement Cross Plate including Transparent Silicone ring (V1508-ISR) I now have an elegant and efficient cafetiere.

A truly great piece of coffee kit; If you haven't drunk it all within a few minutes, then this pot does tend to keep the coffee hot for longer than the traditional glass beaker cafetieres. A must have for all discerning ground-coffee addicts and looks very stylish too. To claim that this is an eight-cup pot is perhaps an exaggeration unless you prepare your coffee extremely strong and have only a small amount. If this one is too big for you, then I could also recommend the smaller version of this product (three-cup) which has been beautifully styled in the same manner - only a scaled-down version. I did have to return the first one of these as the handle had not been braised onto the pot very well. It was perfectly safe though it just didn't look very pretty in that respect.

Being double lined the coffee stays hot longer, ideal for 1 person as makes 2 big mugs full Easy to clean, looks beautiful and no chance of smashing it (always used to happen with glass ones with me) No ground coffee escapes into the mug when pouring

We purchased the La Cafetiere 8-cup version several months ago and, we're delighted with it. The cafetiere looks very elegant, stylish and well-made, in addition to which, it's extremely practical. It has a good spout, which pours without any dripping; coffee is kept nice and hot (though the handle remains cool) and the wide base makes it very safe to use (an accidental knock is unlikely to tip it over, as can happen with straight-sided pots.) Compared to the glass versions we've previously owned, this is much nicer and well worth the cost. Highly recommended.

It doesn't pour very well, it doesn't retain heat for more than 45 minutes and the copper coating starts to flake within the first few uses. Other than that, it's a pretty decent cafetiere which I actually enjoy making a brew in. Other reviews seem to have the opinion that the mesh and its surround can't be removed for cleaning, but I had no problem unscrewing the whole assemby. (Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosey)

Diese Thermo-stempelkanne hatte ich schon wenige Jahre.Sie ist Super im Aussehen und in der Nützlichkeit.2 Stunden hält der Kaffee gut warm/heiß darin.Hatte mir eine 2. bestellt,weil die Kaffeemaschine nach etlichen Jahren Ihren Geist aufgab und ich keine neue mehr anschaffen möchte.Die 2, wenn mal Besuch da ist.Aber das tollste ist der Preis.Nachdem ich die 2.dort bestellt hatte,wo die erste her war habe ich recherchiert bei Amazon,und gesehen das es die Kanne nicht nur exclusiv bei....... gibt sondern auch hier.Und das 20€ günstiger.Muß nur noch herausfinden,wie das Sieb auszuwecheseln geht.Ansonsten einfach toll,mit einem leckeren Ergebniss
