This may be the best "smashula" alternative
Over the last several months Iโve cooked north of 300 burgers across big church cookouts, small groups, and a bunch of trial runs. I started with a burger press (perfectly reasonable tool), cycled through a lightweight stainless spatula, then heavier steel, cast iron, even one of those spring-loaded burger moldsโand eventually landed on this spatula. Along the way I watched a lot of George Motz, J. Kenji Lรณpez-Alt, and other folks making great smash burgers, and I gradually moved away from the press + parchment routine to experimenting with spatulas. This one stuck. The angle is just right for smashing. It has enough mass that it helps you along, but you still press with your hand (and often steady with the other). Itโs not magic with rock-cold, vacuum-packed beef straight from the fridgeโthat stuff is tight and fights you whether youโre using a press or a spatula. A press lets you lean with both hands, so it copes a bit better there. But the upside with this spatula is feel and control: you can see what youโre doing, manage the edge taper as you spread the patty, and make tiny adjustments as the crust sets. That experience is simply better for me than working blind under a press. On sticking: Motzโs spatula techniqueโwarm the blade, light oil, drop the ball, let it get a small brown patch, then flip and smashโdoes make sense and helps. Iโve skipped steps and still had good results most of the time, with the occasional stick to remind me why the technique exists. Once youโre in rhythm, especially doing volume (I smash 15 at a time on a 36" griddle), itโs fast to move station to station with a single spatula instead of juggling a heavy press. For anyone dealing with vacuum-sealed, tight grind: running it once through a coarse plate (hand or electric) loosens it up. It then forms into a gentle ball that smashes cleanly and crusts without crumbling. Fresh store-ground often behaves even better. The one caveat: this isnโt your flipper/scraper. After the smash, I still switch to a sharp edge or scraper to release and turnโsame as youโd do even if you smashed with a press. Taken all together, this spatula is the tool I reach for first now. It gives me the control I want, scales well for large cooks, and just feels right in the hand.

Great kitchen tool!
We use this for everything in the kitchen, it's super durable! The only thing is that the handle wears out easily because we run ours through the dishwasher and the color on it has faded. Very sharp and works great on burgers and meat in general.

AWESOME spatula for the griddle
Love this spatula. Feels like a MAN spatula that could flip a truck!! It's wide and heavy enough to do what ever I need to do on the griddle, or to protect myself and my food from a bear that is trying steal my culinary creations.

Great size for flipping smash burgers
I like the size and quality of this spatula. It allows me to easily scoop and flip smash burgers as well as smash them down if necessary.

Best Smasher Iโve Found So Far
This is a quality item that functions as stated in the description. I needed something wide and short for making burgers on the grill or in a skillet. This item fits the bill and cleans up easily. It is a solid product that has exceeded my expectations. I recommend this product.

Big spatula, smash burgers flat! Second only to the Blackstone Signature XL.
I recently got a griddle top for my Weber grill. The first thing I wanted to make was smashburgers. Those flat, crispy, caramelized, thin burgers you can stack two or three high. Unfortunately, my old spatula was not up to the task, it bent when I tried to smash the first hunk o' meat. I purchased six (yes, 6, I take my grillin' & smokin' seriously) different spatulas before I found the right one that was up to the task. So those plus my old one made seven. This spatula came in 2nd place. It checked almost every box; thickness, weight, strength, wood handle, beveled edge. It lost to the Blackstone Signature XL because the Blackstone was wider, had a bottle opener at the end of the handle and most importantly was $18 at Wal-Mart. It has a heat-resistant handle instead of wood but was half the price of this beast.

Nice spatula but not a great smasher
It is very durable but it will bend if you really want to smash the burgers. It is a nice spatula but you should also get a burger smasher.

Great for smashing
Very high quality, nice and heavy for smashing. Little to no flex of tool. Easy to clean. Nice to have loop for hanging on grill.
