Boots is a rescue cat that we literally brought home from the side of the road. We had never had pets before, so everything—from nail caps to pet food—has been a learning experience for us. When we first brought her home, we went to the store and picked up the basics: a litter box, a scooper, and some dry food. As we learned more, we realized how important hydration is for cats. That led us to buy a water fountain and switch to a premium wet food diet. Then we started looking for ways to help Boots live longer and stay healthier, and that’s when we discovered freeze-dried raw food. I had never heard of it before, but after doing some research, Stella & Chewy’s consistently came up as a top recommendation. We were advised to start with chicken, but since two of Boots’ wet food options are already chicken-based, we decided to try rabbit for variety. Now, I’ll admit—this food is expensive. But I did some math to better understand the value. We feed Boots four times a day, typically about 2.5 oz of wet food per meal. When we replace one of those meals with the freeze-dried food, she only needs about 0.5–0.6 oz. That works out to roughly one pellet per ounce (actually a little less). I will let you determine the price per meal based on the price at time of purchase and how much you feed your cat. Right now, we’re using this as her nighttime meal, and an 8 oz bag lasts us about 15 meals. As for Boots’ reaction: she goes absolutely crazy for this food. She loves the rabbit. The moment I take the bag out of the cabinet, she can’t contain herself. Waiting for me to add warm water, crush the pellets, and mix everything together clearly feels like forever to her. And when it’s finally ready, she devours it—there’s never anything left in the bowl. Would I recommend this? Absolutely. Yes, it’s expensive, but even if you don’t feed it every day, it’s a fantastic option as an occasional meal. Your cat will love it—even if it’s just once a week or less. Finally, while others have likely covered the detailed nutritional benefits, my perspective is simple: the closer we can get to a natural, prey-based diet without fillers, the better it is for our feline friends.

My Sphinx has been having diarrhea for months now. We have tried so many different foods including limited ingredient kibbles and medication from the vet to help. Nothing has made any sort of difference until I switched her to this. We did the transition very slowly as she has never been on any raw diet before and I didn’t want to upset her stomach any more. Within a few days of being fully on this food she is having the most solid poops she has ever had! After reading the reviews I opted to add water to it each time I feed her and it’s been great. She is obsessed and loves meal time now. I do wish it was less expensive but it’s worth it regardless.

This cat food is very highly rated, so I bought it to try on my three fussy cats. They love it! It's very expensive, so I subscribe to have one bag delivered each month. Every night before going to bed we play a game where I flick individual pellets of this food and they chase it. It's the high point of their day and they remind me every night not to forget. I can't imagine feeding this as their main food because of the cost, but it's certainly a quality treat.

The Rabbit Recipe used to be the only food my IBD cat could eat, but we've had a few bags now that clearly weren’t right. Most recently, he got really sick - diarrhea, low energy, not drinking or eating. We eventually realized it was the food. Opened a new bag from a different shipment, and he ate it immediately and started improving. Went back and smelled the bad bag and it had a rancid oil smell. This isn’t the first time it's happened. If your cat suddenly avoids it or seems off, trust your instincts. Something’s going on with quality control. We have had to find another brand of food that meets his dietary restrictions (which wasn't easy!). The Stella and Chewy's was perfect for him until these issues. Really disappointed.
