Beautiful, compact and will last for many years to come.
Awesome compact little heat and light source.Feels very robust in the brass and will age beautifully.Just be careful of the metal cap above the candle. Without thinking I automatically pushed down on the top straight after blowing out the candle. It’s very, very hot!

Great set
Pros:+ collapsible, very portable+ spring will always hold candle in the same position+ various candles available: regular (9h), citronella (9h), bees wax (12h)+ pac-flat and side reflectors available+ comes with chain and hook for hanging+ nice ambient+ vintage brass colourCons:- doesn't emit much light- sticker with logo covers up nearly half of the lantern, a pain to scrape off- basically only works with UCO candlesMy thoughts:Though I love the brass, I find it quite rude of UCO to demand more than twice the money as for the other colours... so I'm happy that I finally managed to pick this one up for a good price, along with a storage bag and 3 x 9h candles. The lantern makes for a nice ambient.

Nice relaxing reading lantern and a bit of heat too
I have spent and wasted a f o r t u n e on camping / tent lights from camping gaz lamps to the latest Cree led fad. I must say that hearing the pop and noise from a gas lamp is great but it's a bit on the large size and hot on the temperature size for a small 1-2 person tent. The UCO lantern is a great compromise. It packs away small, doesn't get scorching hot and provides a great relaxing reading light (see photo). No dangerous fumes either in an enclosed tent. I can hold the lamp without burning my hand, I.e a waft of wind pushing an untied flapping door onto the lantern didn't do any damage. Of course, use your own common sense and always be safe.A great purchase, am very happy with the UCO lantern.

Not bad for a nine hour candle
The lantern I received is not exactly as shown in the picture, but hey ho it's a UCO lantern and it's silver in colour. The candle gives out the same amount of light no matter what the colour of the lantern is. As a wee test I lit one of the candles supplied with the lantern and got a burn time of over 13 hours. Not bad for a nine hour candle. The burn time may vary if it was lit outdoors with draughts etc,; my test was carried out indoors. Even taking the longer burn time into consideration the UCO candles are in my opinion overpriced and I will be making my own at a fraction of the cost. All in all it's a good wee lantern.

UCO Are Not What They Used To Be
The first UCO candle lantern I purchased was years ago, and one of the originals when they first came out. It's a fantastic thing, and I value it greatly as part of my kit. So, when I saw this attractive looking brass version I purchased it, thinking it would be the same quality. It isn't.Instead of being made in America like my original, it seems production has been shifted to China. Design tweaks have been made, the quality has gone noticeably down, and this lantern has a slightly shoddy feel about it, by comparison. For instance, instead of being a snug fit, the bottom cap is now made of thinner plastic, and rattles around loosely, loosing the solid click to lock it in position. And where the original wire handle used to fold around the base and stay there during transport, locking the lantern closed, the new one doesn't. It managed this by a clever friction fit, but the new handle is over-sized and just flops around, unable to be held in position. Lastly, the glass shade is no longer fixed to the top section, and can be slid downwards to light the wick, but I feel this makes it more prone to breakage. To light the original you simply have to drop the candle out of the base - a very simple thing. So in summary, I feel very disappointed indeed that yet another product has seemingly de-evolved in the interests of saving on production costs at the expense of quality. It would be nice if the products we value could actually be refined and improved for a change. UCO would do well to re-evaluate their strategy, and I'm not the only reviewer to notice their change for the worse. Built to the original design and quality standards this would be a 5 star lantern, but the most it's worth now is a 3, in my humble opinion.
