These do the trick on a cold winter day and last the entire day of hiking - about 6-8 hrs.

Works well all day
Work well and stays warm all day, at least 7-8 hours. If it is really cold, use two in each pocket.

Hand warmers maintain heat for even longer than they advertise
I actually didn't buy these to be used as 'hand warmers'. I needed something I could put on my aching wrist and these worked perfectly. I've been doing a lot of gardening and my wrist was bothering me. I thought a hot pack on it would be great, but it needed to be small, so I thought hand warmers would suit my needs perfectly. Worked great!
