Gary Lightbody does folk-rock
For me the key ingredients of an album are the principal songwriter and the vocalist. So although Gary Lightbody released his work this time with the musicians of (Scottish supergroup) Reindeer Section rather than his regular band Snow Patrol, I still viewed this as primarily another Gary Lightbody album. And it is instantly recognisable as such. So if, like me, you enjoy Gary's music then I would highly recommend this album (and the follow-up "Son Of Evil Reindeer") as a sort of mellow, folk-rock version of Snow Patrol.

Beautiful
This is one of the best albums in my collection to just put on and relax with. It's some of the best music to chill out with, but not in the same way as music by the likes of Zero 7, Massive Attack or Morcheeba (all excellent artists, by the way). You most likely woulnd't put this on if you've got friends round, as you might do with albums by any of the just mentioned artists. It might be a bit too laid back. However, that takes nothing from the album.Their second album, Son Of Evil Reindeer, is equally glorious.Just plug in your earbuds, put this on, and enjoy.

Glad I bought the second album first!
After buying Son of Evil Reindeer some time back and falling in love with its sheer beauty I was gagging to lay my hands on the Reindeer Sections debut album but after repeated listens I am left sorely disappointed.Noone can dispute the fact that Gary Lightbody writes beautiful lyrics. Real, rip-your-heart-out-of-your-chest-throw-it-on-the-ground-and-stamp-on-it stuff, but I feel that his (and the rest of the bands) haste at writing and recording this album leaves it feeling empty and non-starting. Track after track simply plod along at such a slow pace that I actually find this a hard album to listen to.I've tried to like this album, believe me, but its just not got that x-factor for me. By all means give it a listen, then go and buy Son of Evil Reindeer.Gotta go, I'm off to the shops exchange this album for something else!

Other reviews a little harsh...
Well it would seem i'm the only one who prefers this album to the second one. I found out about this album thru the the first track being used in a comedians show i went to (Danny Kitson). Picked up the album and was a little dissapointed. However on further listens it's a really good effort. Goes off a bit at the end imo but most of the record is rather lovely.I'm not a fan of snow patrol and was pleasently surprised by the work on show.Well worth a look.

14 beautiful tracks that wil make your heart sad & you smile
14 beautiful tracks. from the start you think this is gonna grow on me. and how it did. every track is beautiful. somewill make you cry they sound so sad. the opening lines "if i gave you my heart, would you giv yours to me" just tells you how good it is going to be. tracks 5 and 7 will blow your socks off. if you like real music, buy this now i promise you will not be disapionted!

Really boring, tuneless, uninspired
I am making these comments comparing thuis album to the reindeer sections second album - son of evil reindeer. I am by no means expecting them to be the same, that would be pointless but I expected something of similar quality - this is not.whilst their second effort is romantic, melodic, sounding like a collaboration between greats ie. belle and sebastian, snow patrol etc. This album however is probably one of the most disapointing dull albums i have ever purchased. If u want to fall asleep through pure boredom go ahead buy this cd - if u want the best of this lot then go buy son of evil reindeer - its much better, great even.
