The quality of the writing on these blocks are not the best and they don't always stick together as well as I would like. Generally, they get the job done and my son finds use for these items when spelling new words and will sometimes use them for counting blocks when he does math homework. They've been a useful tool to have at the house to help him with homework and my son uses them frequently.

When it comes to practicing spelling words with my kindergartener it was hard to keep her attention. These little blocks did the trick! They helped keep her engaged and made spelling fun. Searching for the letters to connect to make her spelling words turned studying into a game.

I use these blocks as another way to practice spelling. These are great and work well and students like them.

This is more of a teaching resource than something for a child to ‘play’ with, or work through on their own. It is in some ways equivalent to a visual aid, but – more than that – it is a practical hands-on tool on which a child can see how words are formed, and themselves form words. Their own name is likely to come first, followed by some of the simple words that are illustrated on the light blue and pink cubes – dog, cat, ant, etc. After they get going, and for a keen learner to do some voluntary ‘revision’ practice, they can work on their own, but most tasks will need a teacher to at least introduce a concept. That means individual teaching or, at most, small group work. Good for home learning – not at all good if there are more than three children using a single box of reading rods at the same time. The enclosed leaflet should definitely be read right through by the prospective teacher. Besides explaining how the various colour codes are to be interpreted (e.g. pink pictures represent words beginning with a vowel; blue ones a consonant), it offers many good ideas for demonstrating how words work. Some ideas in the leaflet come as a surprise – or did to me. The concept of rhymes is introduced (cat, mat, bat, etc.), as is counting the number of syllables in a single word (up to three in the examples – volcano, violin, …). Through use of these rods, perhaps a new generation of poets will emerge (and rhymed verse with a strict metre will come back into fashion)! Well, perhaps not, but at least the children’s reading is likely to develop alongside almost without specifically paying attention to that. The cubes are nicely made and presented in a stout box that – with reasonable care – should well outlast any one child’s period of need for exercises at this level. ‘Yes’ to 3+ for building their own name from its elements – but mainly 5-6 plus for seriously beginning to read.

Este juguete contiene: 21 consonantes (dos cubos de cada) en los que no se incluye la ñ; 6 vocales (ya que la y la consideran una vocal, también dos cubos de cada) 21 imágenes que representan una consonante (por ejemplo sock, calcetín, es la s) 5 imágenes que representan una vocal (por ejemplo ant, hormiga, es la a) 2 cubos en blanco. Los bloques correspondientes a las consonantes son azules mientras que los que corresponden a las vocales con rojos. Dos caras son para ir encajando los cubos, y en las otras cuatro caras hay una mayúscula y tres minúsculas. Todos los cubos están colocados en una caja en la que hay tres compartimentos, el de las consonantes, el de las vocales y el de las imágenes. La caja se ve robusta y va muy bien para guardar los cubos una vez se ha terminado el juego. > Una ventaja de los cubos respecto a las cartas , por ejemplo, es que una vez el peque ha construido una palabra, ésta permanece fija hasta que la desmonta para crear otra palabra. Se puede construir también alguna frase sencilla. Se incluye una guía de actividades que contiene numerosos juegos. Está solamente en inglés por lo que o los progenitores saben inglés o tendrán que usar un traductor automático. La guía está muy bien porque incluye actividades para explorar el ritmo de pronunciación de las palabras, entender cómo funcionan las sílabas, distinguir las mayúsculas de las minúsculas, emparejar sonidos con imágenes, etc. Todo lo necesario para empezar a aprender inglés. Este juguete es una buena opción para usar en el aula (o en casa) para que los peques empiecen a aprender inglés. Está recomendado para niños a partir de tres años. PERO Esta versión de los Reading Rods (que se podría traducir como “bloques de lectura”) sólo está en inglés no es fácil adaptarla al castellano.

Me vino con piezas de menos, pero era muy buen juego para el niño Lo recomiendo aunque no me vino completo, era un regalo de navidad y fue muy rapido Vendedor muy resolutivo
