Key To Good Typing
I bought this keyboard quite some time ago, and sorry Amazon, it was from another vendor (it was before I knew better!). It's not cheap, but your money does get you one very solid keyboard. The keys are perfect for professionals as well as more casual users. The spacing, the key pressure, and the overall layout, are flawless. It also makes that satisfying clicking sound - not the absolute best I've heard - but still pretty good. The keys in use, manage to feel solid, but without excess stiffness. It's the ideal mechanical brown switch, just that mere hint of a bump to make it tactile and give some feedback, but not so much as to be requiring a push from the ole fingers. It's as good a key balance as I've ever used. Touch typists will be in their element. My only niggle, is that it would be ideal if they did a UK layout rather than just offering the US one. But, learning a few very simple key combinations, freely available on your favourite search engine, allows an easy workaround, if you need to use the ยฃ symbol. It works as well today, as it did several years ago when I bought it, and I really think it's going to go on forever if not abused. Not once has it let me down, and I've put it through its paces.

Typing on the Filco (with Cherry MX Reds) is like typing on a keyboard from the 1980s. They are "tough" to push down (as tough as keyboard keys can be) and it is a generally unpleasant experience in my opinion. If you are used to typing on laptops and touchscreens and using cheap crappy membrane keyboards, and you enjoy the light touch those devices take, then I warn you not to purchase this keyboard. Typing on this keyboard is like typing on a keyboard built by a caveman, keys go down keys come up, no finesse. Now, that said, this isn't a bad keyboard, it is a great quality keyboard it just isn't what I want. And I see no reason to take any stars from a good product just because I want something else. I just wanted to leave an honest review so everyone has a chance to be well informed.

There was a negative comment about this keyboard so I just want to chime in with my thoughts. I bought this keyboard to replace a Majestouch 2 TKL whose keycaps were fading after a few years of use. When I looked for a replacement, only this version with the numeric keypad was available. After almost a year of use, I think it's not bad at all. The keys feel solid and hopefully the doubleshot PBT means the etchings will last for some time. Whoever said the keys are unpleasant when compared to laptops should consider a magnetic keyboard not a mechanical keyboard like this one. The only negative I can really say is that the design is a little boring when compared to the competition. Hopefully this review balances out expectations. It's a practical no-frills keyboard that's designed to last.

The number two key on the keyboard was defective. Fortunately this was discovered in the first two weeks of owning the keyboard so I was able to get a replacement shipped. I owned a majestouch two for years before this, and this newer generation is more pleasant to type on from a feel perspective due to the different material and seems like it will stand up to a bit more wear and tear on the keys than the previous one, also due to the new material. This is interestingly my first factory issue with a Filco keyboard. I've been a longtime user of their products and their keyboards are otherwise tanks. I am an extremely abusive keyboard user: I've spilled liquids on them, dropped them, etc. The last one got replaced finally because a full cup of coffee got spilled on it, which was not enough for even the mighty Filco to outlast.

This keyboard has worked without problems for me so far, and the key feel isn't as comfortable as buckling spring for me, but I've gotten used to it.
