Can I run this backwards?

In theory, the performance of that particular style of impeller used in that pump head unit assembly would be the same, regardless of rotational direction. But given the shape of that particular head unit assembly, running it backwards would cancel out almost all of the normal flow. Such action will not pull in liquid from the output and then push it through the intake. Also, that particular pump head unit assembly has a partition between the intake port and the impeller, which would further hamper any possibility of a reverse flow. By the way, you might want to double check anything you buy from that seller. They sold and delivered two pumps to me that were declared and marked as new, but had actually been repainted (poorly) and rebuilt (very poorly) units. One had major damage that prevented it from running at all, thre other had electrical issues that concerned me for safety reasons. I returned them for a refund. Others have experienced this with that seller as well. Be very careful with their products. They can pose a fire and/or electrocution hazard.
