Men's Kahuna III Sandals Trekking & Hiking Shoes

I’m now on my second pair of these. Absolutely the best you can buy. My first pair lasted over 10 years and took a real bashing. Super comfy for rough terrain and clambering over rocky shoreline. Great in water and they dry out fast. Adjustable straps make them a perfect personalised fit. Highly recommended for outdoor pursuits and lightweight. Vibram soles make for super grip and traction. I’ve tried others and these out perform them all. Great quality.

Excellent sandals. Very comfortable and supportive. Only to be expected from Merells, a superb brand of sports shoe. I have been wearing Merells for the past 30 years.

This is my third pair in about 20 years - they are incredible- comfortable and hard wearing. Too old and decrepit now, but I used to walk miles in them. Full foot support, durable hard wearing sole and excellent strapping. Unequivocally recommended.

Merrell Kahuna 3. Very nice in summer, everywhere, including a sandy beach. They dry up quickly, the sand does not rub too badly, the lining is soft. The two problems are how the back strap is attached, and how the middle strap causes a bump under the outer side of the foot. The back strap rubs the outside of the foot, lateral malleolus. The strap should have been designed to go slightly lower. I had to trim it with a knife, and no problems since. Get the size slightly smaller than normal. Their boots are true to the size, and sandals have the sole of the same size at the boot, which makes it too large. ***Added later*** These sandals survived one season and revealed a design flaw - they are narrow due to the modern trend to have the front strips (those embracing the base of the toes, a.k.a. the ball of foot), coming out from the sole with a significant offset from its edge. As a result, the sole looks wide, but only a part of it homes the forefoot, thus making it feel quite narrow, even at the maximum adjustment. It also deforms the pinky, which is not healthy at all. Buying a larger size to address this issue does not help, because then the sole profile designed as anatomical begins to work against your anatomy, and the top line starts rubbing a little on the outer side (the upper non-adjustable trip to the heel patch). ***Added even more late*** Preparing for the new season, reviewing my gear - this is yet another design fault in Kahuna III. A bump on the sole developed where the middle strap is attached to the sole. It feels like a foot arch support extended to the outer side of the foot, very noticeable and unpleasant. It will not breake the foot, as I managed to walk quite a lot wearing these last summer, but still a concern. To conclude - Merrell Kahuna III are tolerable as the last moment purchase before holidays, need a modification to prevent injury, and have to be replaced by the following season, all due to design faults.

Really happy with these sandals. Don't normally wear sandals but decided to give them a try while on holiday. So comfy and secure. They have good grip and the various straps allow one to get a really solid fit. I initially got mens size 12 as that's my normal shoe size but decided to exchange for size 11 as the sole protruded quite a way in front of my toes that I thought looked odd and also might be a trip risk. Size 11 is perfect. Still plenty of space at the front but now looks proportional. Materials feel premium too. I highly recommend them.

My summer walking sandals were getting well past their sell by date and then after a long time spent in a large shopping centre looking in every outdoor and shoe shop I had found nothing other than some ludicrously high priced options. Stopped for a coffee and browsed my phone to find these - which are exactly the same as the worn out shoes I wanted to replace. !! It always seems a bit boring to buy the same thing but I knew they would be comfortable and last reasonably well and they were half the price of many that I had been looking at and rejected. It was only after ordering that I found some really poor reviews and wondered if the design had changed. My concerns were unfounded. I am pleased to say they are exactly the same as my originals and for my very wide size 11 feet fit perfectly. I am still trying to understand reviews complaining they are not adjustable as they have adjustment across the foot and on the instep. the section across the foot has a non adjustable liner but that is thin soft very stretchy wet suit type material and goes around my huge wide size 11s in comfort. In conclusion these are reasonably lightweight, smart enough to wear casually as they do not look like hill walking kit, lightweight for packing, comfortable and at a reasonably sensible price. I know from experience that the soles last well. In fact although the uppers on my old shoes are really worn out the soles have masses of mileage left in them.

The front part sole is very thin and has no support for the toes. It will definitely get stuck on boulders and steps if you don't lift the feet high enough. The toes feel in free dangling, no support, no protection. THe bridge fit is not good - there is a hard part sticking out that pushes painfully into the skin. Returned my pair because these don't feel comfoortable at all.
