The Book on which the Tom Hanks 'Apollo 13' film is based
A fascinating book about the near disaster of the Apollo 13 Moon mission. In fact the book covers Jim Lovell's early interest in rockets, his astronaut selection and the Apollo 1 disaster before turning to the Apollo 13 mission itself. I found the book interesting enough to hold my attention throughout recovery from a hip replacement op. The fact that the op didn't quite go to plan but ended up successful mirrored the Apollo 13 mission! I think especially if you lived through those 4 days in 1970 when the world held its breath for the crippled mission you may well find this a great read. There is also a chapter at the end which is a must-read for those who need to understand why it happened. This section is much more detailed than the film and charts all the contributory errors leading up to the explosion of the oxygen tank. Recommended for those who are interested in going deeper than the excellent Apollo 13 film.

Great story, great book.
Brilliant book & an easy read. The story is well known from the film, this book fills in all the missing historical aspects & tops up the known facts with plenty of in depth, behind the scenes details to build a much bigger, clearer picture. The story is gripping, despite knowing how it ends it still rolls along at pace leaving you wanting to read on. A feel for all the main characters & roles soon builds up, giving the reader a much more fulfilled story to work through. Absolutely brilliant.

A well-written story of a thrilling adventure.
This is well written by Mr. Kluger, who is evidently an accomplished storyteller, though I would have liked Mr. Lovell's voice to have come through more. His seemingly effortless progression from brilliant boyhood to outstanding astronaut left me a little unsatisfied. Similarly, the characters of his two companions in the adventure remain largely unrevealed. But this is not a biography; it sets out to tell an exciting story with enough technical information and background not to overwhelm the general reader, and in this it succeeds.

Edge of Seat stuff
Excellent used book. Read Neil's, Buzz's and Mike's books prior to reading this one. Mike's is fantastic with just right amount of technical info to understand the complexity of travelling to the moon. This book has an astronaut and writers input and literally has you on the edge of your seat. Superb. When men were men

There’s no problem with this book !
Wow ! You may have seen the epic film by Director Ron Howard - this book is a fantastic companion - without being overly or too scientific - and is full of insightful detail and human character The story of possibly the greatest NASA achievement - the almost impossible recovery of three men against seemingly impossible odds A very engrossing read and delighted with this purchase

An excellent book by someone who was there.
I devoured this book in the space of an evening. Even though I knew the story , this book added little details and insights that made me smile. Forgive the pun but it’s a very down to earth and engaging book! Highly recommended!

A great book
Despite the title, the book covers much more than Apollo 13 - giving a first row point of view on the space race, the sacrifice and challenges behind it. A must read if you are a moon/space fan!

Un-putdownable
About the Story Growing up as a child, seeing the moon, the only GK I knew about it was "Neil Armstrong" Only after watching the movie did I read up about Apollo 13. I've watched the movie multiple times over the years, read the wiki articles on the Apollo program; and was intrigued to read more in depth first hand. To give you an idea of how much un-putdownable this book has been, consider this - I started reading on a Monday evening, after work and finished the book on Friday afternoon, while going through my routine day where I would have 2-3 hours of leisure to read. About the Book Quality I purchased the second-hand book sold by Booklovers Delight. The book was in good shape, as would be expected for a 25+ year old copy - all bound properly and no damage seen Going to come back to them and check for more second hand books that I would want.
