Jack of all trades, except for one.
Upgraded to this with an i5 8600k and 16GB Corsair RGB Vengeance ram from an i7 2600k. This is a very beautiful motherboard that has everything you could possibly need. The temperature of everything on board it is extremely good with minimal air cooling. The other reviews complained of DOA ram slots so I tested them all and they all worked, easily hitting 3600mhz. Everything works perfectly except for the following: -When I first set it up to test it before assembling the parts, I kept getting a boot loop until I updated the firmware through the bios, which shouldn't have been a problem to begin with. -Also, the CPU backplate was dirty and slightly rusted, the VRM cover was chipped and the PCB was dirty. (See pictures, note I didn't touch it, straight out of the box.) I thoroughly cleaned them and everything was clean afterwards except the backplate and the VRM heatsink. -My previous motherboard was a z68 Gigabyte, it had dolby software, and to say that Soundblaster is a downgrade is an understatement, I was so ridiculously disappointed with the sound that I considered returning it. Here are the problems I had: 1- The Realtek drivers supported by this motherboard can't differentiate between front and rear inputs, it simply marks both as Speakers and the option to mute one or the other is simply gone. So to use your rear input device, you have to unplug your front input device. I had to uninstall the new Realtek drivers and use the Windows one for them to be recognized again so it's clearly a software problem. This could have been easily solved by a software update or an ac97 port. 2- The Soundblaster "Improvements" did absolutely nothing, furthermore, plugging headphones alongside speakers produced a lot of static and noise. I just removed both of them and used Windows audio drivers in the end, which also stopped the motherboard's RGB music mode from working. I sorely miss my Gigabyte's Dolby equalizer and its features.

One of the best Z370 Motherboards available
One of the best Z370 MoBos available for overclocking (12 phase V-regs, what more can you ask for?) Tons of features, easy to set up BIOS, good stock cooling/heatsinks, nice to look at, just a great board.

Worked well, but features come with footnotes
I bought this motherboard for a NAS/Gateway build. I initially had some problems with the RAM, but the rest of the build went smoothly. Ubuntu didn't need a single driver tweak to get everything working. Why 4 stars? The documentation for the POST codes is almost nonexistent. Apparently 4C means it saw the RAM but rejected it for some reason. I just randomly swapped around modules until they all worked. The Internet says this is a common problem. While the motherboard does support hot swap SATA (enabled in the BIOS), it only supports it for 6/8 SATA connectors. Likewise many of the other peripherals in the feature list should have footnotes next to them. There are five fan connectors. Four of them allowed me to control the fan speed. Only one of the NICs work with UEFI. Overall happy with the motherboard.

Great Motherboard
This board had everything we wanted for my Son's Gamin/Programing computer. Matched with a Samsung 970 m.2 and a i7 8700k. This machine is rocking.

RAM slots came DOA, Does not fit large size tower coolers.
Actually very disappointed. This motherboard was installed into the computer I am using now and I was unaware to the fact that the RAM slots were all dead but the A1 slot. I thought the ram sticks I had bought were all DOA besides the one that worked in the one slot, I was entirely wrong as I found out after going through the RMA process with Gskill for the replacements. Be careful as well, a large tower cooler will not be able to be installed on this computer as the RAM have blocked mine, I attemped to install a dual fan Phanteks CPU cooler, I was forced to use the little stock cooler for my CPU for the time being. Considering the reveiws on this motherboard I regret buying the product and spending almost $200 on this. The "Dr. Debug" has plenty of codes to help you figure out what the problem is if there is one, however it is still not very informative. Admittedly I didnt look too hard, however I did not see any documentation as to what each code would be on the paperwork given for the board. I had to refer to an online forum to which took me a second to comprehend that they have a RANGE for what a hardware problem error code is referencing as none of the numbers off of the Dr. Debug were exactly lining up. Wasted my time and money. Link to RAM that "Didn't work" G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) Ripjaws V Series DDR4 PC4-25600 3200MHz for Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 Platform Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C16D-8GVKB Link to CPU cooler that does not fit: Phanteks CPU Cooler with 5 x 8mm Dual Heat-pipes, 140mm Premium Fans and PWM Adaptor, Patented P.A.T.S Coating, PH-TC14PE_BK (Black)

I upgraded from an Asus Gene V. Paired this with an 8700k. Overclocked to 4.8 with a Noctua heat sync. Voltages running about 1.3. The 12 phase vrm is a nice feature. I could probably get to 5 with an aio water cooler. Only complaint is that it doesn’t offer as much flexibility as the asus board in offset mode.

defective
had to replace a broken one of these motherboards. New board will not power on. All parts (power supply, ram, video card, drives) worked on old board (cpu socket pins got damaged), checked case power switch, tested on multimeter as working, tried jumping power switch pins on motherboard with small screwdriver, same result. LEDs on motherboard are on so it's getting power to it, defect in power switch circuit in board probably. UPDATE 8/4/18- replacement board works fine. have read a lot of recent reviews of this board on other sites and the not powering on seems to be the most common fault.

Consigliatissima
