Poor design doesn't last long
I've had to replace so many of these valves over the years. Sometimes they last just a few months. There's a thick rubber flapper that gets held down by a rod that presses on the top of it, which seals the valve closed. Over time the flapper will get an indentation where the rod presses it, and also it bows down slightly. Eventually it won't seal and you get an inflow of water to the toilet. It should be a much more sturdy unit. Another gripe is that these things cost about $20 a few short years ago. $30 seems like a ripoff for such a poor product that you have to replace frequently.
