It’s the eve of World War II and sisters Laura and Kate Barlow (Natalie Portman, Black Swan; Lily-Rose Depp, Yoga Hosers) are touring Europe with their supernatural act, channeling lost spirits and departed loved ones. One such session brings them face-to-face with André Korben (Emmanuel Salinger, La Sentinelle), a renowned French business tycoon and cinema producer. He offers the sisters a contract: His team will perform ambitious experiments on the metaphysical duo and capture the outcome on camera, thus creating the first truly authentic ghost-film. He casts Laura as the lead in the film alongside matinee idol Fernand Prouvé (Louis Garrel, Ismael’s Ghosts). Korben works with his partners André Servier and Eva Saïd (Amira Casar, Versailles) to make Laura and Kate famous. However, as the experiments grow more disturbing, Laura discovers a sinister plot that soon spirals into a game of hidden agendas that tests human limits and social values.

beautifully acted
Contrary to bad reviews, the film has a definite story line. Beautifully acted and nuanced drama. Pretty scenery and good acting--the movie deserves some praise. It was an enjoyable experience. I recommend watching it.

Nuances and Seances
A slow movie that is okay if you're willing to read some subtitles during about half the movie. If you understand French, then it will be easier. Most is in English. The movie has a European feel to the movie, in that it seems we viewers should look at subtle nuances and appreciate them.

what the heck did I just watch?
I love Natalie Portman, but this film was a snooze fest. No wonder I had never heard of it. A 1930s period piece that is visually beautiful, but most of the time I had no idea what was going on.There's no planetarium, by the way.

Passionate pain
Relax and don't expect the story to take you where you think it will. It's more than about the girls, much more.Don't watch it if you don't like or understand foreign films. Your review would waste my time and yours.

What?
Finished the movie with the lingering question of "What did I just watch?" The movie was okay, wasn't what the description said it was, however. Nicely acted, pretty scenes. A lot of spoken French with English subtitles. Felt like there was no real plot or story, it just kind of meandered.

Hollywood still thinks the whole world SMOKES
Natalie Portman drops 99% of her appeal as an actress by continuing to glorify smoking.

A movie for intellectuals
A little slow to warm up to but a very good story.
