Great piece of kit.
Fast delivery. Great piece of kit. Reasonably easy to install and really sturdy. My sit on kayak is quite heavy 29kg and this handles it perfectly. Yes the non-adjustable straps are a bit annoying but I redesigned them to fit precisely and can raise my boat until it touches the rafters in my garage. The safety lock is great and prevents the boat coming down on my head by accident. Included instructions aren't great but the YouTube video worked fine so all good. I intend to purchase a second for my other boat. Update: I've now purchased a 2nd one and sit is as good as the first. I've managed to reclaim the use of my garage floor. 😄

Generally good quality let down by a couple of the screws.
There are basically two types of these pulleys for sale at the time of writing on Amazon. This one and a cheaper version. This one was for sale in three listings when we got it. This listing for a kayak pulley and two for bikes. The price varied a lot between the listings but this was the best price at the time (May 2020). The cheaper one gets some poor reviews fo being poorer quality/flimsy in places. Out of the box I was impressed by this product. The main pieces are made of 2mm folded steel and feel very solid (it looks like the cheaper version uses thinner pressings). The ones in this product are easily up to the job (in my view as an M.Eng). The rest of the parts are not quite as good but generally adequate. The pulleys are simple nylon (?) wheels on steel spindles. There are no bearings but for the load which this is meant to handle and infrequent use I'd expect these to last reasonably well. It's possible that they could become deformed over time from the load hanging from them in one place for a long time but that's speculation only. The pulleys are bolted to the frames with M8 bolts. The strength of these will depend on the actual material which I don't know, but even if they are relatively poor quality, they should easily be up to the job. The cleat to hold the rope on the wall is a simple but adequate bent steel affair. The rope (as others have commented) is odd and looks like possibly the weakest element here. It'll do the job new, but does not inspire confidence that it will wear well. Time will tell. Would have been good to see something better here. I found fitting fairly involved, but that's mainly because of my application and space available. There are two ways to mount the brackets to the ceiling: 1) with screws or bolts going vertically through supplied brackets to which you then bolt on the main pulley carriers or 2) bolting horizontally through something and into the pulley carrier. In my view the latter is a stronger/preferable fixing if available, but as long as the correct fixings are used, either will be fine. The fixings are supplied, but here's where my only real criticism/caution applies. The smallest screws provided are for holding the wall cleat. Both of these sheared off during fitting for me. Although I was using a slipper clutch driver to put them in, I don't believe torque was excessive. Possibly user error, but I have never had this problem with any of the screws I've bought myself to use to mount things in the garage. This raises a concern about the material qualities used. If the screws were poor, it's possible it's just those ones which hold the cleat which are sub standard. The rest of the fixings supplied give no hint from appearance that they are not reasonable quality, but it can be difficult to tell. Sorry I can't be more definitive. I used only the horizontal through bolts in my case and given there are 4 of these and they are M10, I am happy that that they will be fine. In my case this is only holding one mountain bike. If I had to use the vertical coach screws to fix up into a ceiling/rafter, I would probably replace what is supplied with my own, just to be sure. In use it's pretty good. There is no mechanical advantage/gearing from the pulleys here, so you are lifting the full weight of your bike/kayak. Not generally an issue, but worth noting. In most cases it may be worth considering knotting the two ropes together so that you can pull evenly more easily. I am also going to fit a ring on the ropes so tyhat I can just hook that on to the cleat once raised. That to me feels like a safer/easier way to lock into place before coiling and hanging the rope (i.e. rather than having to get a couple of turns on the cleat to lock the ropes). Speaking of locks. There is a locking mechanism fitting which holds the load. It's simple and in my view too unreliable to be of much value. It's not reliable enough that one can let go of the ropes, but works well enough to be an obstacle when trying to lower. As others have noted, it's probably worth bypassing altogether for this reason. In my application I raised a bicycle about 4m. I had just about enough rope to do this (I have to lift the bike slightly first to hook the saddle and bars). But I have the pulley brackets slightly closer together than would be normal for other reasons. That means you may have less rope available (especially if lifting something longer than a bike - like a kayak). So if you're planning to lift quite high, you might need to replace the rope. If you're using the straps as well this is unlikely to be an issue however.

Sturdy hoist
Arrived a day or so sooner than I was expecting which is always commendable. On unpacking, I discovered a well-made, quality hoist that looked and felt like it could do the job I intended it for. I installed it in my garage single handed without problem in a couple of hours. If the enclosed instructions aren't quite clear enough (especially the rope threading part), go to YouTube and watch one of a dozen or so demonstrations. It turns out really simple to do. The hoist works well but the rope brake is a bit stiff at first down to newness. Rope quality isn't the best but doing the job for now. Most garages (UK) will have lower joists than what is ideally required for this hoist to be truly fit for purpose leaving little or no headroom after the item (kayak, bicycle, roof box, etc.) is lifted. All said & done, I'm very satisfied with my purchase so far. It is holding a 30kg kayak plus paddle, seat, life jacket & trolley without problem.

Hoist
The mechanism is good but the rope provided is not adequate. It is already beginning to become frail after a few uses. Installation instructions poor also.

Heavy Duty Storage Hoist for Canoes, SUPs, Kayaks & Bikes
This H2o Kayaks Canoe/SUP/Kayak/Bike Heavy Duty Storage Hoist System is an excellent solution for those looking to store their watercraft in a safe and secure manner. The hoist is designed to keep your kayak, canoe, standup paddleboard, or bike out of the way when not in use, and is easy to install and use. The hoist system features two heavy-duty steel pulleys and two rust-resistant galvanized steel ropes with stainless steel carabiners that can bear up to 150 lbs of weight. This capacity is more than enough to hold a canoe, kayak, SUP, or bike. The hoist also comes with easy-to-follow instructions for installation and operation. The hoist system is adjustable and can be installed on either ceiling or wall joists. The pulleys are designed to smoothly roll along the ropes and ensure that your watercraft is safely stored without any jerky movements. The hoist also comes with a safety locking mechanism to ensure that your watercraft is securely stored. The hoist system is also incredibly versatile, as it can be used to store any type of watercraft, from canoes and kayaks to SUPs and bikes.

Good quality hoist system but you need plenty of height
Does exactly what is says it should do, instructions aren't great and had to refer to the youtube video to make sure the locking mechanism was threaded correctly with the cord but overall installation was quick and simple, only down side is you need to have a high ceiling to be able to really get it above head height, I have a standard UK garage and struggled to get the kayak above shoulder height but this isnt really the products fault.

Sturdy kit, works well. I can see my garage floor now
Quick delivery (second time around, first got damaged by courier) and well packaged. In box instructions aren't great (basically tell you to watch a YouTube vid). YouTube instructions are spot on, worth watching before attempting installation. This seem like sturdy kit so I have high hopes for the future, if I hit any snags I'll update my review. Happy with purchase.

Excellent
I can rarely muster sufficient motivation to write a review, however I have to say this product is great and a real pleasure to fit with good instructions and all required parts supplied. If only everything was this well supplied.
