Contains three films: North by Northwest , Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train Review: Great companion piece to Alfred Hitchcock Masterpiece Collection. - Now all the UK fans of The Masterpiece Collection can finally get a copy of North by Northwest along with Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train on blu ray in this nice set. I paid less for this set AND Masterpiece Collection than what I would have paid for the US Masterpiece Collection alone. I admit, the selling price of 15 US dollars pushed me to get this set. And glad I got it. This is one fabulous set of films on blu ray. Strangers on a Train never looked better. What detail in the image. Warner did a fantastic job of restoring this (and even included the longer preview version). Dial M for Murder is a mixed bag as transfers go. The image is finally presented in a 1.85 aspect ratio, but it way too soft and lack of detail compared to the scenes used in the special feature "Hitchcock and Dial M". The scenes are beautiful compared to the blu ray transfer. Could it be from the image being enlarged to fill the 1.78 screen? Why not leave it in a 1.37 image that is nice and detailed. I still prefer to watch this film in the 1.37 ratio because it is tighter and much more claustraphobic than having it "opened" up for widescreen. There are two versions included here, a 3D and a 2D for us folks without 3D TVs. And the last film North by Northwest is still brilliant looking on blu ray. Looks to be from same print Warner used few years back with US release on blu. The detail and color of this transfer is stunning. These are great films from a great director. Just wished all three transfers looked as great. Hopefully Warner will find a way (or better print) to make Dial M for Murder sparkle on blu ray like it should. Review: Excellent! - Excellent product and delivery!

Three individually boxed Classics
It was better to buy this three blu ray collection than buy each film seperate as one of the movies alone was much of the price of the collection. Each film is presented seperately in individual boxes. NORTH BY NORTHWEST is the 50th Anniversary edition & comes with many special features including documentaries, trailers & tv spots, stills gallery and audio commentary by screenwriter Ernest Lehman. STRANGERS ON A TRAIN Special Features are Final release version with commentary, preview version, Making of Documentary, 3 featurettes & More!. DIAL M FOR MURDER is in 3D or 2D & has a Documentary on the film + theatrical trailer. The whole collection cost me £15 plus postage so was well worth buying at that price.

Two excellent and one fair transfer!
Two of the transfers are dazzling but “Dial M for Murder”,while okay, is slightly technically inferior and rather soft. Still it’s totally watchable and at £14 this box set is a real bargain! The restoration of “North By Northwest” and “Strangers on the Train” are stunning!

3 for the price of 1
For my review of the excellent Strangers on a Train goto the Blu-Ray edition ,if ,like me ,you already own these films on DVD your ok to stay with them unless you have a 3D Blu-Ray and a 3D TV ,then this is a must buy. This set is all about 3D dial M ,which Hitch described as a gimmick and hes right about that. But if like me you've always wondered what it would be like to see in 3D here goes, The film starts with the credits, somewhere between the screen and you , then you quickly see why there's a foreground object as well as middle and background because without it the 3D doesn't really work , as when he cuts to the 'God's eye view' until the light fitting completes the trick again when the camera moves behind it. The two key scenes that are totally in three dimensions are the rape/murder and when the key is presented to the audience . The middle too end of the film have very little to make full use of the novelty and it tends to revert to a 2D like picture. Having watched this as my first 3D film i did get a bit bored with the glasses and it isn't as much fun too watch as the 2D version where you can enjoy the show without being distracted every now and then , but thats more a person too person preference . As with all Hitchcock films, re-watching is rewarded and new things are observed that escaped your attention before, for me it was when Margo and Mark go to the Theater together without Tony ,so he can bring his plan into operation. After a long gap in the play ,taken up with plot, the phone rings and its Margo telling Tony how good the play is ect. but she ends the call by saying there's the bell , so it must have been the intermission in the play when she called, but we hear nothing on the soundtrack ,but tony hears everything when shes being attacked later over the phone, then she hangs up , That can only mean one of two things , when she said bell she might have meant the lights were flashing for the second act or they never went to the theater at all , don't forget Mark and Margo are lovers so did they just go to his hotel instead? we'll never know but its a juicy little wink too the audience that their up to no good.

Fantastic
Warner has done a fantastic job presenting these three Hitchcock classic on Blu-ray. The box set houses three standard Blu-ray cases which are identical to the stand-alone versions; the only difference is the lower price here. Strangers on A Train was cleaned up quite a bit for Blu-ray and the black and white image has fantastic clarity with a fine layer of grain. Extras are identical to the special edition DVD. North by Northwest is identical to the stand-alone release. Beautiful. Dial M for Murder was shot in 3D and the negatives, restored as they are here (I only watched it in 2D), still look pretty dupey in some shots, especially the rear projection. Some shots are so bad they look like they were duped from VHS. Overall, it's better than the DVD, but still far behind To Catch A Thief or Trouble With Harry. There's a 3D version on the same disc but I didn't watch it. A fantastic deal, especially for us in North America where Dial M alone sells for ~$30. The features and extras are region free on all three films and are playable in North America.

Great set.
This has some absolute classics in it. It's good quality and just a nice set to own especially as it contains the only movies that don't come as part of another Hitchcock boxset that we purchased.

Worth buying for just Dial M for Murder!
Worth buying this boxset for just Dial M for Murder, as it`s presented in both 3D and 2D! For a 50 year old plus film, the blu ray transfer is crisp and full of contrast. The 3D is good, but I noticed some "overlapping" on some scenes, a sort of double image effect. That said, it only happened occasionally. Could be a problem with my active shutter glasses? Only Dolby 1.0 mono sound, but it is an old film after all. Yet to watch North by Northwest and Strangers on a Train, but if they have been restored to the same level, they will be a joy to watch!

Largely completes my AH collection
I invested in 3 sets of Alfred Hitchcock movies in 4K. None of these films were part of those sets so it was nice to get these without double-dipping on any titles. Good quality transfers. Enjoyable films.

Alfred Hitchcock - Collection

1 out of 3 aint good.
North by northwest has been digitaly remastered and looks great but Dial m for murder and strangers on a train have not and look more like a dvd transferred to bluray.
