Professional Model Menuhin Shield Type Violin Viola Mute (BLACK)

I bought this as a birthday present for a friend on the recommendation of a violin teacher that I know.She wanted to practise and not annoy her neighbours. It's simple to use and can be kept on the violin when not in use or completely taken off. It might be my imagination, but I feel like it sounds better than my mute, which looks a bit clunky and is threaded through the strings, so you can't remove it.I think I'll probably end up buying another of these for myself.

It reduces the noise of the violin without affecting much of the tone. It makes the violin much quieter, but of course it’s still loud, but I don’t think we can get better than that without affecting the tone a lot. Maybe it reduces 30% of the sound or so. Also gives a much softer and melodic sound to the violin. It attaches very strong, you should be careful always when remove to not drop the bridge

My daughter is doing a Maths/Music joint honors degree, her music bit it Violin and she specialises in performance. She also lives in a flat and needs to practice loads, this mute is to make the violin quieter when she plays. She has two things to say about it1. When it's in place it's really good, the tone of her violin is good and noise it reduced.2. When it's not in place it tends to rattle against the bridge....I'm giving it a positive review as she likes it, and mostly plays with the mute on, but if you were constantly having to take it on and off it would be a cause for concern.

When you play violin it is on your shoulder very close to your ears. As my violin is loud I find practicing for a long time is hard on my hearing. This mute is very small, makes the violin sound less harsh and quieter. It stays put even when I hang my violin on it's wall hanger. It is expensive but well made so should only need to be purchased once.

Worth paying extra for a more robust mute, it's possible to initial the small brass circle if often lent out to forgetful friends. Best used with a magnet on the tailpiece to prevent vibrating when not in use.

I’ve tried all types of mute now and was looking forward to this type recommended by another musician.Be very careful with moving this mute. When I pushed it towards the bridge, the bridge fell over over causing damage to the violin body from the underside of the tailpiece due to the released tension.I think the mute may have got stuck on the thread of a string. It did not take much applied force for this to happen so please take care. I personally will not be using this type of mute ever again.The tone was not as quiet as other mutes, but I can say it did produce a very pleasant and balanced sound compared to some others.On another point, I was unimpressed with the plastic mould feel of this particular product which makes it feel cheap. I think there are higher quality ones available.

Works well. No vibration when placed over threaded part of strings

This mute does make my pre-war violin sounds noticeable darker and cuts out a lot of overtone on the A and E string. But if you like warmer and more mellow sound like me, this is one of the cheapest way.

This mute is great at bringing out that warm, subdued sound that a con sord marking calls for. I don't play in orchestra that often, but I still play with this mute on quite a lot because for certain parts of my practice, it's nice to not blast my loud violin at fill volume. The mute does reduce the volume quite a bit, maybe 20-30% but still maintains a lot of the crispness of the original sound. As it mentions in the directions on the box, you do have to put it at an angle while it is not in use, or it will vibrate or move around. You can also remove it completely without detaching any strings, so it's quite convenient.

Pour moi la meilleurs sourdine pour violon. Cher mais le top. Rapide à mettre en place.
