Dear B, yes, this light has one violet led, which is very important for corals growth also benefits reflection of true color of your corals.

Will this light work for a coral reef tank 24 inches deep?

Yes and no it’s best results comes at 19inches but So this means you would just want to place your coral based on its photogenic needs. I would YouTube the pair values and make a call. I have mine on a 29 gallon and it’s 23 inches from light to sand bed and I have had nothing but success.

This model has 9 leds. What makes it superior to other $60-80 models (for lps & easy sps) that have well... Many many more than 9 leds?

It’s the brightness, I have two of these over a 30g, I also have a current USA $150 over a 37g and a nicrew $37 over a 20g, the hipargaros are much brighter and all my corals like them better, sps, lps, and softies. very easy to adjust to get the lighting just right.

Does this have to manually be turned on everytime due to the touch button?
