What are the slide switches on top of the transmitters for?

They turn the transmitters on. Be sure to install the batteries inside first.

How is this unit holding up for you guys because it feels very cheap?

Very reliable we us it several times a week with no problems. We take care when using it during connection and disconnect.

What is the frequency response of the transmitter or microphone?

I connected a vintage Hewlett Packard audio oscillator to a speaker. Then I clipped the Steelman's transmitter pickup to the speaker's frame. Sweeping the audio oscillator through its range, I could hear (through headphones) on the Steelman receiver the audio output of a range of about 300hz to 3,000hz.

Are the transmitters waterproof?
