No diffuser. Not necessary. I have used a large decor bulb, which looks great.

Is this cream? It looks white even though says cream

Yes it is cream or you could call it soft white.

Anyone used this with a Hue colour bulb? Does the white/cream let through other colours appropriately?

I didn't. Just used with regular LED lightbulb. BUT I will say that it probably will look great with a hue color bulb because the material is pretty thin and is off white/creme color. I really like this lampshade. I feel like you can't go wrong if you get it. Also, I ordered a black one first but didn't like it as much and the return of the black one was very easy so even if you don't like it you can probably return it easily.

What sort of bulbs do you need ?
