I love this steamer. It is excellent! And will be buying another one for work
I absolutely love this product. I did a lot, and I mean a lot, of research on steamers and this has proven to be everything that I expected. For one, there is nothing like a good steamer for weight loss, quick, healthy foods, and the life. The problem with preparing food is the pain that may often accompany the process. The Hamilton Beach Digital Steamer is extremely easy to use and clean. Why is this important? Because anything more complicated means you will not use it after a brief period of use. This unit has two layers so you can steam a variety of foods at ounce. As others have pointed out, unlike other units this one is intelligently designed so as not to leak water during the process. Furthermore, each part of the unit is so well designed that cleaning it is very easy and conducive for multiple use. I use this three times a day, as I like to eat as many greens as possible. One reviewer pointed out that this lacks a recipe book for steaming food. Frankly, this is not a big deal at all. Anyone with a google search engine can pull up millions of recipes. It does come with a simple and useful guide about how long a variety of veggies take to cook, which brings me to my next point: This unit cooks and steams each food so evenly and well that I could never go back to the old pot of boiling water and one of those mess thingys, which is what I used to use until I got fed up. I cannot recommend this steamer enough. It is a life changer. You will use it, use it often, and get a lot of health benefits in doing so. In fact, I think I might even get another one for work, so I can steam my lunches.

Big enough to steam tamales upright
First of all, let me explain that I use a steamer several times each week. I regularly steam veggies and rice, and always use it to hard boil eggs. I also use it occasionally for chicken, fish, and my grandkids very favorite food, hotdogs. So, as you can imagine, I was really disappointed when my old steamer finally died. It had been going strong for almost ten years, and now I was stuck with the task of trying to find something else that would work equally well. I did tons of research before finally settling on this model. It was a good decision. This steamer is all digital, whereas my old one just had a dial. It has a delay start timer that I can set for anywhere from 30 minutes to 24 hours away. The maximum steam time is 1 hour, but I’ve just added water and reset the time when I’m steaming tamales, which take up to two hours. When the set time is done the unit will switch to “warm” mode for up to an hour. If I’m not watching closely and the water level gets too low then the unit will beep and display “Lo”. Adding water is simple – just pull out the water drawer and fill. There’s a viewing window so I can always see where the water level is at. The two steaming bowls stack if you want to steam several things at once, or you can remove one of the bowls and just steam singly. The rice bowl will steam a cup of rice at a time. I have packed both steam bowls on occasion, and haven’t had any problems with everything cooking at the same rate. A really nice feature is that I can stack both bowls but remove the bottom from the upper bowl. This gives me twice the vertical space so I can steam corn on the cob or tamales in the upright position. I’m really loving this steamer so far, and hoping to get a lot of years of use out of it. I’ll update this review if I run into any problems.

Works great!
Shipping was fast with no breaks or cracks. I received it yesterday, washed it all up and used it for the first time last night. So easy to use. I absolutely love it!!!! Okay, the plastic bowls are not real sturdy, so I wouldn't let a child mess with them or give them any rough treatment, but as long as you are careful with them, they should last a long time. I put fresh salmon on the bottom, mixed frozen veggies in the middle one and frozen asparagus in the top one for about 25 minutes. It all turned out perfect and no leaking. Can't wait to try some little new potatoes tonight and fresh broccoli. Says it will make hard boiled eggs also for deviled eggs. I'll be trying that next. I am very happy with my purchase.

Good but quality lacking
I have purchased 2 of these steamers. I have really liked them because they are easy to use and consistent every time. Most things (potatoes, rice, eggs, etc) generally only take about 20 minutes and cooks perfectly. The digital screen is nice and the fact I can refill the water without removing the trays is good. However, I wish the quality of the plastic was better. I use it pretty frequently but with both I’ve had, the sides of the clear trays crack and the lid handles always break. My son had to 3D print me a new one (in purple) because the original one cracked and broke. There are also a lot of cracks underneath where the handle is. The clear trays are labeled “1” and “2”. If you use “2” for the bottom tray, it will leak water onto the counter because it’s slightly larger than “1”. So now that my “1” tray is cracked it’s virtually unusable unless I want to keep cleaning up water afterward. So overall good steamer but does have some issues.

Pretty good!
When my old Black n Decker steamer finally died on me, I wanted a new one. Nope. So I looked. I wasn't about to buy some of these. It looked like you could barely get a side of fish in some of them. I wanted something I could toss a boatload of stuff in. This was one of the few steamers that had a removeable center rack to allow for expansion. The plastic itself is a fairly soft plastic. It will scratch up if you use a scrubber on it. Use the sponge side to clean it is my advice. The steamer is cooktime + 5 minutes. 5 minutes for it to get up to steaming temp. Which is about average I would rate. The unit fits together in a very solid manner. There's no steam leaking out of cracks or crevices. So that's very good. I've had some that leaked out of every joint it had. The unit takes about 40 oz of water. I recommend you use filtered water. That helps to cut down on mineral deposits left behind, nevermind improves the taste (no chlorine). Some said that they had mold on it, and I got some white flecks on the bottom, but those are mineral deposits. Not mold. The steamer does get hot enough to do meats such as chicken. I would NOT use it for any meat that is fatty. The reason is because of the water level chamber. There's no way to get at it to clean it near as I can tell. So use lean meats. Also, rinse it out if you do something that leaves fat behind. That will help. I suspect that peeps that got "mold' in their steamer either steamed up something fatty, and/or just let it sit there. Pretty much all steamers will get mold if you do something like leave it all nite without cleaning it. Overall, the steamer works very well.

Many thumbs up!
Everything...and I mean everything I cook in this steamer tastes better. I’ve made omelettes, hard boiled eggs, salmon, chicken breast, a wide array of vegetables, rice....All cook perfectly. I could not be more pleased with this product. The small reserve area to add water, that other noted as a minus, is not a problem...I fill it easily with water poured in using a measuring cup. I love hard boiled eggs and they steam so much better than boiling. Wish all parts were dishwasher safe, but I don’t mind the small bit of hand washing - because the steamer is EASY to use, food tastes wonderful/flavorful, I can cook my meats and veggies or veggies and rice at the same time and it saves space on the stovetop. I’m telling everybody about this thing and I am having a ball steaming. I even made room in my pantry to store it...it’s fairly small and very lightweight...easy to take in and out of pantry on the regular. When a kitchen/cooking product offers more tasty food, convenience and fun - What’s not to like. It actually makes me smile each time I think - “Hmm, what will I steam tonight.” (Note, some suggest adding seasoning after steaming...No way....Put all seasonings on when you steam, same as if you were using the stovetop or oven. 😊

GARBAGE -- I expected much better from Hamilton Beach
UPDATE: I lowered my review of this piece of crap to one star. I'm leaving my original review as a warning to others who are looking for a good vegetable steamer. I bought this one a year ago and it started leaking water all over my counter about six months ago. I was hoping it was condensation, but it's not. When I dumped the water out of the reservoir, the water in the chassis got on the LED display, shorting it out. It's now worthless. There are no manufacturers of kitchen appliances that are worth a damn, so you might as well go with whatever is cheapest. They're all going to degrade and fail within a year, so there's no sense in spending good money on something that's guaranteed to fail. I'm going back to using a stove top steamer. At least there are no electronics or cheap plastic that will fail quickly. Original review: This thing is flimsy, the plastic is thin and brittle, and shows that it was engineered to optimize manufacturing and packaging and not the customer's needs. There are several things that show very little thought and make using the steamer more trouble than it needs to be. To begin with, the bottoms of both steamer trays are removable. This is a nuisance when your food is steamed and you tip it out into a bowl -- the tray bottom falls out and splashes water on the counter. This is because having the bottoms removable is an engineering and manufacturing decision. It is justified because they claim a selling point of being able to remove the bottom from tray 2 to create a five up steaming tray. All together, the trays consist of five pieces: two side pieces marked 1 and 2, two tray bottoms, and a lid. If they manufactured it so that tray 1 were one piece and tray 2 had the removable bottom, it would serve the customer and they would only need to package four pieces. I will conjecture that there is slightly higher cost in manufacturing tray 1 as a single piece, like literally all other steamers do. Second, the alarm that lets you know when it's finished is weak and barely audible. Third, there is no setting so that when it's finished, it simply shuts off. It goes from Heat to Warm automatically without any way to override this default setting. If you don't hear the alarm, it will continue to steam your food on the Warm setting, which will overcook it. Again, there is no setting so that it just shuts off. I can promise I won't buy another Hamilton Beach appliance. When I grew up in the 60s and 70s, it was recognized brand name and meant quality, and you were happy to pay a bit more to get a better product. It doesn't mean a thing today, especially not quality, but you still pay a higher price.

A design flaw but otherwise very good
The steamer is very good for the process of steaming. I often use it for vegetables, fish and hard boiling eggs. The issue I have is one of design. The Digital display is vertically flat and if at the counter impossible to read without bending down to lower vantage point. A small thing but frustrating to someone who uses it often.

Works great
I was skeptical because of reviews I read but could not find any in my area so bought it anyway, thankfully I didn't listen to past reviews. It's great, love it. Not sure why so many complaints about water all over, mine so far never a drop beside steamer, and easy fill up with more water if needed, not sure about the complaint that she could not find the fill up?? It's well marked. Great to steam corn with the double high steamer. Easy to clean also, steams everything fast. Only downside have to watch steamer closely as finish "ding" sound very faint barely audible unless your standing right beside it, but it goes onto warm mode so at least food does not cool off if you check past done. I can live with this one little issue.

DANGEROUS DO NOT BUY ONE
This item is not intended for use in the UK! It is rated at120Volts and not the 230/40Volts we us in the UK. Comes with a two pin American (moulded) plug. If you were to remove this to put a three pin plug on you invalidate your warranty and would be dangerous!!!!
