Great for slicing meats & vegetables. Makes great meat & sweet potato jerky treats for dogs!
Super impressed with price & function!! Bought this for making jerky for humans & for dog treats. I usually do 7-10 pounds at a time. Hand slicing the meat took a toll on my wrists & hands - cramps & aches for days after and it took 4-6 hours. Because I was hand slicing, I would have to pound the slices with a hammer tenderizer if I didn't get them thin enough, which made a huge mess (the dogs liked it though!) I was leery of buying an electric slicer- I like my fingers where they are! This little machine is built solidly. Very easy to assemble, break down & store. Super easy to clean - would suggest having a bottle brush to make sure you get into cracks & to keep your hands safe from blades. The suction cup held firmly to my formica countertop. Because I control the speed & left hand was guiding the meat, while right turned the crank handle, I felt very safe using this. It arrived this morning. I washed it, assembled it & went to work. I was able to slice 10 pounds of meat into perfect jerky thinness, season it & get it back in the fridge marinating in 1.5 hours! No aching hands or wrists from gripping a knife. No foot or back aches from standing at the counter for hours. No huge mess of meat splattering all over the place from using a tenderizer. I wish I had though of getting a deli slicer sooner! We have a big garden, lots of dogs & foster rescue dogs. I am sure this slicer will be handy for all sorts of uses to harvest our crops & make other dog treats - sweet potato jerky for the dogs is my next project!

Great quality and perfect for anyone who wants to save time in the kitchen
Pros: Lightweight but surprisingly strong, easy to clean, foldable, so it doesn’t take up much space and since it’s not motorized, I don’t have to worry about anything breaking. Honestly, sometimes I prefer the old-fashioned way. The blade works great! it’s really sharp. Cons: I still need to get the hang of keeping the food steady while sliding it back and forth. When the meat is really flat or tender, it feels almost impossible to hold the food and move the handle at the same time. Would I recommend it? Yes! Especially for busy moms who need something dependable and love to cook. Final rating: I’m giving it 5 stars. The quality is amazing, even though sometimes it feels like you might need two people when the food doesn’t stay in place.

Worth the purchase!
Got this because I make soft milk bread and using a bread knife is very difficult without squishing the bread or ripping it. This works wonderfully so far. I've used it so far on 5 loaves and they've cut nicely and evenly. Looks very bakery-made. Definitely worth the purchase. Now I'm not dreading to cut my breads after baking lol. Pros: - Easy to set up - Easy to clean - Easy to use.. pretty intuitive even if you don't look at the instruction manual - Light & compact so easy to take out/put away - Thickness adjustable Cons: - Squeaks! - Sometimes the suction loses suction so lifts - Even the lowest thickness at 1 is still a bit "thick" for some cheese & meats - Not sure how to replace blade if needed to - No blade guard so it's an adult-only equipment meaning little people can't help - Crumbs gets INTO the gear so clean up requires taking all parts off. Not a difficult task, but still... - No crumb or slice catcher, you'll have to move the slices out individually after each pass Overall: Even with the cons, I still think it's worth it over the mechanical ones. Yes the cons are a bit of a nuisance but it's not a deal breaker for me. I don't have the space to get a bigger mechanical one, but even if I did I find them quite unsightly so I won't be having it on my kitchen counter anyway. Which would discourage me from baking/using. While this is easy to pack away/take out, and easy to use so it' does encourage me to continue baking and using. I haven't tried on cheeses or meats yet but I feel like it'll be too thick given "1" is pretty thick already. It's relatively easy to clean but since crumbs get everywhere, I figure cleaning after using cheeses or meats would also be a task on it's own. I'm not sure if it's dishwasher safe - probably not, but handwashing would be preferred anyway considering it's really just 4 pieces lol my kids (11 & 6) want to help out but I don't feel comfortable letting them since there's no blade guard for their little fingers. Maybe if I watch over them like a hawk while they use it? But then that's not really helping... lol

Perfect for home baked bread
I've been baking bread weekly for over 7 years now and have always been frustrated with my inability to cut thin, even slices for sandwiches. I have gone through a couple of excellent, sharp Japanese-made bread knives searching for the perfect tool, but it wasn't the knives afterall, it was my technique, which I was never able to master. While in a deli recently, watching them cut meat thinly and evenly, I thought maybe this was the key to bread slicing, so I started looking online at electric meat slicers. The downsides of electric slicers were price and size. I have limited storage space in my apartment and really don't plan on slicing anything other than bread, so electric seemed like overkill. But, while searching Amazon for meat slicers I ran across this manually operated Starfrit Deli Slicer. It looks like a toy, so I was hesitant to buy it, but at this price-point, it was worth the risk. I love this machine. Yes, it's all plastic, except the blade, and the colors really make it appear toy-like, but it is well made, the user experience is top notch, it folds up neatly, easily and takes up very little space. It took a couple of loaves to get used to the ratio between the speed of the blade (hand cranked), and the speed at which I need to push the loaf to get the cut. What I determined was to let the blade do the cutting and guide, rather than push the loaf, and now I get a nice even, thin (you adjust the thickness to your liking) slice. After the bread has cooled a few hours, I get the slicer out, assemble it (takes about 2 minutes), and slice away. I would estimate that it takes maybe 15 minutes, tops, from the time I get the slicer off the shelf, to the time I'm putting a sliced loaf into the bag and getting the slicer back on the shelf. I haven't done meat yet. I don't expect to. This is an excellent bread slicer and I recommend it highly, especially at this price.

Great for Meats, Not for Bread
I bought this deli slicer hoping to use it for bread as well as meats and cheeses. While it handled meats fine, I couldn’t get it to cut bread in straight, even slices and ultimately had to return it. It’s sturdy and the blade is sharp, but for bread lovers it may not give the results you’re looking for. Tip: If you mainly plan to slice meats or firm cheeses, this slicer should work well; for bread, look for one specifically rated for bakery items. Verdict: A solid slicer for its intended purpose, but not the best choice if you’re buying it primarily to slice bread. The size of the cutter is about what you would expect, and it was easy to assemble.

Works great as a bread slicer!
Amazing for slicing homemade sourdough bread loaves!! I am so happy I found this slicer. I haven’t used it for cheese or meat yet but if I only ever use it for bread then it was worth the purchase. So affordable and stores away easily. Easy to clean and put together. Highly highly recommend!!

Doesn't work for me!
I bought this to make slicing my sourdough bread easier and make uniform slices. It is awful! First of all it looks like a toy with that lime green color. I would hate to see a child get a hold of it thinking it's a toy and try to play with it. Second of all it does not work properly. Once it is put together the bread will not slice evenly. The bread either gets squished because its too soft or if the bread is fresh baked and cooled the blade won't slice through and crumbs go everywhere. I'm left with sawed off pieces of bread! Also the whole loaf of bread has to be cut in half in order for it to fit in the slicer. So, I'm back to using my bread knife. I know this works for some people, but I do not recommend it.

Great for slicing bread and roasts
I've recently started baking bread, having tired of the terrible breads on American shelves and being spoiled by breads when living in Germany. I've been pretty unimpressed by the bread slicing options though. While a knife certainly works, it's difficult to get a consistent thickness and cut. I got a couple of the adjustable bread slicers with cutting guides - they just didn't work that well. So then I tried this deli slicer. It works great. I can slice with very high consistency through breads of different densities without problems. I can select the thickness through any useful setting. The single large clamp on the bottom holds the slicer firmly on my granite countertop which I operate the handle. For christmas, we had a vegan breaded roast, which I've historically cut with a large knife, and the slices were much superior - nice edges, consistent thickness. Cleaning is pretty easy. The blade comes off with a simple motion and all except the blade is dish washer safe. It folds up conveniently if you don't want to leave it out. Rotary slicers can be expensive, but this one is very inexpensive. I highly recommend it

Duró muy poco
Me había encantado al principio , solo lo usaba para rebanar pan y a los dos meses se rompió la manivela mientras rebanaba pan, ojalá vendieran repuestos

Great slicer!!!
Works exactly as described. Cuts a baguette, cheese and Genoa salami perfectly! A few slices tore at the end but come on, for a hand operated system, what can you expect? This thing is awesome! I usually make a board on the regular and it can take up to 45 minutes of hand cutting to get a board ready. With this item, I'm getting everything cut, displayed and out on the table within 15- minutes...and that's to make a board for 10+ ppl. This thing is a serious game changer 🙌. No joke. Oh yes, I should say that I don't own a dishwasher. I live completely off grid worth zero electricity or running water. This thing comes completely apart, is EASY to wash, dry and store. I'M HAPPY WITH IT AND WILL RECOMMEND IT TO ANYBODY WONDERING ABOUT IT. I'm a huge Starfrit fan...and recommend the company's products to EVERYBODY. I have the barrel slicer, the French fry press, the deli slicer and their 2 gear hand operated food processor. I have yet to be let down by this company and EVERYTHING can come apart and be properly hand washed. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Great for slicing bread
This worked SO well. I thought of getting a zassenhaus bread slicer but it was just so pricey. A number of people recommended this so I gave it a try. Excellent stuff. Very pleased.

Great little slicer.
I purchased this to slice my homemade bread in equal slices. I am very happy with it. It was not really able to slice sourdough nicely, but all my other bread recipes sliced okay in this. It was very easy to turn as I pushed the bread though, and the slicer suctions to the table really well - it did not move at all while using. It is easy to clean afterward and it folds up in on itself for slim easy storage. I have not used it for any cured meets or cheeses yet.
