Currently, ive been listening to Terence McKenna's spoken words, and lectures a lot on Youtube and 'The Psychedelic Salon' Podcast. And Ive been wanting to read his work for a long time. This book was my choice and it seems to be the best choice for a beginner of Terence McKenna, as the book 'Food Of The Gods' explains a lot of Terence's theories and ideas. Terrence expresses his ideas in detail: 'Stoned Ape Theory' e.c.t, and always in his linguistic, thought provoking way that he explains them through spoken word. 'Food Of The Gods' is so exciting that I could barely put the book down and ended up reading the whole thing in 3 days (which is rare for me). No matter what subject your into, this book should be mandatory reading for anybody on this planet to become a better, stronger human. 'Food Of The Gods' breaks boundaries of thinking, and as the legendary comedian Bill Hicks would say ''squeegee you're third eye''.

This book is an essential read for anyone interested in history, be it from an interest into ancient cultures, ethnobotany, ethnic oragins or simply looking to answer the question "Why are we who we are?". Terrance McKenna is a fantastic author whos, even most trivial descriptions come accross as prose. His referaces to existing material is very well referanced and the overall book is presented superbly. His world view and perspective is one of someone who has great vision and insight into the workings of the human mind and condition. The ideas contained in his book reflect on every aspect of who we beleive ourselves to be as a species in every aspect of humanity. The history presented is compelling, convincing and derived out of a unique insight into the world which few seldom attain.

In short, a must read for anyone seeking a detailed account of drugs, their history and effects, and the particular benefits of hallucinogenics. If you are seeking to experiment with plant hallucinogenic, this is a wonderful guide written by a very gifted, scientifically-literate expert.

If you like Terence McKenna, you'll love this narrative. His hair-raising adventures, his flirtation with madness, his examination of all things hallucinogenic that the Amazon Rainforest had to offer, are all detailed with the kind of language that is unmistakably McKenna. Lost to us now, his writing and recordings go on, informing and entertaining us. RIP Teremce and thanks for everything. I bought the kindle edition, so cannot comment on presentation or packaging.

Brilliant

Terence McKenna simply elates the reader intellectually by criticising and building on the way modern society has forgotten its archaic roots and has shifted into a male-dominant society by doing so. He does this by combining facts and opinion which he has gathered from a lifetime learning of ethnobotany, metaphysics, shamanism, as well as heavily using and annotating the effects of psychedelic drugs, most notably; Psilocybin containing mushrooms.

While the condition was listed as "acceptable," this was indistinguishable from a used book. I was so pleased when I opened it to find such a pristine copy. I look forward to wearing it in over multiple readings.

Great read

Boken beskriver mycket möjliga rötter till det psykedeliska riket och beskriver en historia som sträcker sig över tio tusen år tillbaka i tiden. Flera olika folkstammar beskrivs. Den beskriver bortfallet av psykedeliska växter ur vår kulturella diet och hur "den äkta varan" byttes ut mot t.ex. abstrakta symboler och till slut även en glömska av det gudomliga som dessa plantor hävdas ge. Relativt nutida händelser skildras också, såsom "the war on drugs", kriget mot drogerna, samt en blick i hur framtiden skulle kunna se ut. Jag kände mig gripen och fascinerad genom hela boken. Jag kände mig känslomässigt investerad i kapitlen och fick dessutom några riktigt goda skratt. Det är en historiebok med bias till drogliberalitet. Kan inte rekommendera den nog. Skaffa den! Väl värt läsningen.
