Extemely Durable, Excellent Concept.
I couldn't be any happier about this purchase if I tried! I have purchased various KONG products over the years and for the most part have always found them to be high quality, well made toys. KONG are a brand I have always trusted but a while pack I purchased one of their toys and let's just say, neither me nor my dog had a very positive experience. While this put me off for a while, I have used KONG extreme with other dogs in the past and never had an issue. I purchased one as my dog needs more exercise, but due to her older age and health problems, it needs to be something both gentle and stimulating. The KONG extreme is made of seriously hard wearing rubber and is easily stuffed with treats of your choosing, although KONG does offer specific products to use in conjunction. The KONG extreme keeps the dog stimulated and interested due to the way it moves unpredictably. In addition, I have found it to be ideal for my dog as she is particularly destructive; she loves to chew but sadly this means her toys don't last more than 15 minutes. The KONG extreme has been the exception and despite prolonged daily use, there are few signs of wear and absolutely no damage, tearing or splitting which affects the overall strength and integrity of the toy and I anticipate we will be using it for a long time to come. I have awarded this product a firm 5 stars from a possible 5 and this applies to every aspect. This product is sturdy and strong, provides endless hours of play, offers versatility and choice and is easy to clean. A little recommendation for me; if using wet or a combination of wet and dry food, I would recommend popping this in the freezer for a while before handing it over to your pooch. This makes the food harder to extract and prolongs play and exercise time, making your dog work harder for their treats. If my review has been helpful to you, please take the time to rate me by clicking 'yes' below. Many thanks in advance!

Tough enough for my heavy chewer
Lasts longer than the other kongs. My dog still gets in to it around the opening eventually. Takes longer before I have to replace.

Lasted 2 weeks!
Really impressed with this. Its last 2 weeks with my Staffie now, when toys (especially rubber) dont tend to last an hour. Will be getting more Kong toys

Indestructable and Entertains Border for an hour at a time!
I had to look long and hard for a Kong as I had read too many reviews where peoples' dogs had destroyed their Kong rather quickly and when I buy something, I expect it to last forever. My determined chewer 9 month Border Collie pup has destroyed most of his toys and cost us quite some pennies, so I didn't want a five minute wonder. I was ecstatic it lasted more than a day, and now a couple months down the line, it's perfectly in one piece and no signs of teeth marks.. I would ego so far as to say it's one of his favourite toys (it's a toss up between this and the Kong squeaking Tennis ball which again is a miracle it hasn't burst but I have to control this toy as its useful to distract him on walks etc when seeing other dogs etc). I cram the Kong with pate, peanut butter, cooked chicken etc which will entertain him for at least an hour or sometimes give it him empty which he loves playing with as it has plenty of bounce. Rightly so, it's not as big as it sounds being called a Large, but I think it's the perfect size - no jaws have got stuck in this house and nor does it look possible as some others have complained about. It also smells very strong of rubber, so when I hide it, my dog can sniff it out quickly. I cannot recommend this toy enough. 5/5!

I decided to get the Kong Extreme toy for my then 9-year-old dog in Sept. 2010, after her older sister passed away a few days before. I figured we both could have used the distraction. I learned ages ago that most toys couldn't hold up against my two Australian Cattle Dogs, since they didn't just happily gnaw on things, they'd try to eat it. In fact, they tried to eat a number of things, from fabrics to meticulously eating the lining off tennis balls and soft balls. Nothing was safe, especially against the youngest, who has some OCD issues. I'd be lucky to see a tough toy last a day, much less a month. Like the rest, I didn't think this toy would stand a chance, but it's still holding up well almost a year later. My dog isn't a strong chewer, like a doberman or pit, but very meticulous. She and her sister would go at something for hours if you let them, until nothing was left. Because of this, I also need to choose soft toys, rather than something hard, because she'll wear her teeth down if you let her. Fortunately, this manages to stand up to her obsessive chewing, but it also doesn't wear the teeth down, which I love. I'm thinking of getting a new one, even though the current could probably last another few months. I'm just now seeing some wear along the seams, despite her every effort to conquer and destroy it. I'm mainly getting it just to be on the safe side, so that I don't risk it falling apart while I'm not watching her, and just for the sake of cleanliness. These are extremely durable and easy to clean. They do have a strong odor when you first open them up, but it fades relatively quickly. I let ours soak it in hot/vinegar water for a while, then rinsed it well and left it out in the sun for a few hours. Seemed to help a little. They can also be loud when dogs chew on them, which can be annoying if you're trying to watch TV, but I find it well worth it, even if my partner doesn't agree during football time. I love the fact that these toys bounce unpredictably, although I would be careful around furniture if you plan to bounce it off the floor or toss it. I got into the habit of using it down our long hallway, referring to it as Dog Bowling, which she loves. She also didn't need food as incentive to get into it (just me playing with it and making it out to be a big deal), which is great, since that just means less cleaning and less weight gain in my book, although I do put treats in it now and then, if my partner and I are leaving the house and plan to be gone awhile. My dog's around around 30 lbs. and is medium sized, but has had no trouble tackling the larger-sized version, which was the only size available through Amazon at the time. I may get the medium-sized toy soon, just because she's reaching 10 and she'll go at it for ages. This is a great toy for obsessive chewers in particular, and I highly recommend it to dog lovers. I just wish we'd found out about them sooner! I'm also happy to report that she has stopped chewing on random things), like blankets and clothing, as much as she used to. If she does start up, it's because she can't find her Kong. I may also get the bone version and will review on that if I do.
