Treatment for Fungal Nail Infection

This stuff works. I have had a fungal nail infection in my little toe for a good few years now, to the point where the nail becomes brittle and splits down the centre, making it very painful. It also recurrently spreads to the surrounding skin giving me athlete's foot. I went to the doctor and he prescribed a nail lacquer that is painted on, and I had to do this for six months three times a week, spending ages filing the nail each time and sterilising everything with alcohol rubs. After all this faffing around, it didn't work, and the infection spread to the nail next to it (I can only imagine through the dust from the nail filings). Anyway, I gave up with that, and went to the local chemist to see what they had. I noticed this stuff. It acts by altering the acidity of the nail and the nailbed so the fungus does not have optimal growth conditions. It weakens the fungus and eventually destroys it. It is used twice a day and you simply use the pen to "colour in" your toenail on top and under the edge. Clip off the infected parts of the nail as they grow out. That's it. No filing, sterilising, breathing in toenail/fungus dust, etc. It takes 30 seconds to treat my two nails. I have been using it for four weeks, and the nails are improving greatly. I am still using my first pen, but have ordered another, since it is important not to miss a single treatment and to carry on for a few months afterwards to ensure the infection is clear.

This stuff is the only one that has had any effect on my persistently infected big toe nail. It does work but it's still a long job. I tried this rather than the brush on variety as it should in theory work out cheaper but I found that it seems to dry out very quickly. Luckily I found a spinner I could 3D print which seems to be extending the life. I think my nail is now probably clear but want to keep on the attack until it is all completely grown out which will take a while.

Completely dry, unable to use.

Seriously, this stuff DOES work. If it worked for me, it'll work for anybody that is serious about getting rid. The process/action is so simple that I can't see how it could work for some and not others. I've had it on both big toenails for about 3 years. However it recently spread to a fingernail. It was at this point that I bought Excilor and started applying it to said fingernail. The nail was only newly infected, wasn't too bad, and the problem cleared completely in about 3 weeks. Thus I knew it definitely worked so I began to religiously (and I mean religiously, never missing an application) apply it twice daily (sometimes even 3 times) to both toenails. I'd say I buy one new pen every 5 weeks, approximately, even though the old ones aren't done, just for continuity to make sure I'm getting a generous coverage every time. I'd say it's been about 6 months and both nails are virtually clear. I'd say another month, maybe two before they clear completely. It's a slow process and can feel like it's not working. STICK WITH IT!!! By the time it's cleared completely I'll have spent circa £100, but in truth I'd have gladly spent at least ten times that to get rid of this embarrassing problem. As for the pens themselves, I've noticed you can get 2 different tip types. One is hard, durable and lasts till the pen empties, the other is a different material and doesn't last very long. When purchasing, specify the one with the more durable tip. Ask to open it to check if necessary. Finally, keep the affected nails well clipped. I clipped them down as far as I could and kept them like that. Good luck!

I've been using the product for about one month and the best I can report is the nail seems to be less thick and a little lighter in colour. The new growth may be a little lighter again. Realistically, especially after reading other reviews, I did not expect a big change quickly as I have had one problem nail for years. I've been to the doctor who tested scrapings and everything came back clear. It's just a discoloured, somewhat brittle nail. I've never used any other product (mainly because they are so much more expensive) so I can't compare but Excilor is really easy to apply - just paint on twice a day - and totally painless. They quote about 500 applications in one "pen" (I think) so I've only used about 60 so I should have lots left. When it runs out, if there is a definite improvement but not fully cured, it is very likely that I would buy some more.

Excellent when it is in use.

Fungal infections are very difficult to get rid of because they reproduce at a racing speed under the right conditions. As an example think about how fast bread dough rises in a warm moist atmosphere. If the fungus is reproducing faster than a treatment kills it then you're not going to get rid of the infection easily. I used to be a chiropodist and I'm very aware of how slow a toenail regrows compared to a fingernail. Because of the speed of fungal reproduction, finger nails will take several months to recover. Toenails grow much more slowly so will take much longer than finger nails, especially if your circulation's not too good (you need circulation to grow the nail out). I believe that you need to see a treated nail grow out completely several times before you see an infection vanish completely. I received a prescribed systemic treatment from my doctor. It was supposed to be a 6 month treatment, but 12 months passed before I saw any change. My doc took me off the treatment because it was taking too long and might have a negative impact on my liver. So, I've been trying Excilor for 2-3 months on thumb and first finger, and my first pen is just about to finish. I can only just see a small response. It's too soon yet to make a damning or praising comment but response does seem to be positive and I've not seen any 100% positive reviews for any particular product yet by anyone from the Uk

I have been using this product since Sept 2011 - exactly as described in the leaflet, applying twice a day to all ten toenails. A 'pen lasts approximately 20 days - I have used 12 pens, at a total cost around £190. The condition of my nails has hardly changed at all. 2 unaffected nails are still unaffected. 6 affected nails are about the same as they were (small, crumbly, white/brownish). One big toenail remains completely white and crumbly - there have been no signs of yellow or brown marking in all this time. The other big toenail looked for a time as if the yellow/brown area was receding towards the tip of the nail. The white area at the root began to increase in size for about 4 months, and a pink area spread to the tip. Then without any obvious cause, the yellow fungus began to reinfect the area over about half the width of the nail. That part of the nail has now separated completely from the nail bed, and has been trimmed away. The remaining part of the nail appears to be being re-invaded by the fungus, and the white area at the base is slowly shrinking, despite continued treatment. From what I have read, this is a fairly common experience using topical treatments (applied to the nail). Ten years ago I did try a prescribed course of drug treatment for the infection - but the side effects were quite unpleasant, and I had to take 2 courses over several months. My GP was unwilling to continue the treatment further. The nail infection did recede for a time, but re-established itself once treatment ceased. Excilor may possibly be slowing it up, but on the heavily-affected big toenails, seems expensively ineffective! Sorry to be a bit pessimistic!
