Firm but comfortable from day one
I was expecting to spend a while breaking this saddle in, but found it very comfortable from the start. It may have helped that I'm used to firm saddles (my other saddle is a Specialized Romin). After 100 miles I reached a new level of comfort as it started to mould to my body. Two dimples started to form around my sit bones, and I found myself naturally settling into a comfortable position on every ride. I felt well supported at the rear, and crucially this kept pressure off the softer tissues that would otherwise be resting on the front of the saddle. During a recent tour I cycled 30-40 miles each day for two weeks; at the end of each day my legs and arms were tired but I didn't feel sore on the saddle. It is also comfortable on my 5 mile daily commute. Some disadvantages: Bear in mind it's best not to keep a leather saddle outdoors in the rain (you could always cover it with a plastic bag I suppose), and unfortunately I've heard about someone's Brooks being stolen off their bike when they locked it to a railing in London. Also you should need to spend ten minutes every few weeks rubbing it with proofide, and there are lighter saddles out there if you are anxious to shave every possible gramme of weight from your bike. Overall this is a very good saddle and I would definitely recommend it to a friend. Finally if you buy one, please read Sheldon Brown's article about leather saddles [...] and don't play around with the tension adjustment screw. Also I'd think twice about following advice from the reviewer below who tenderised his saddle with a hammer!

Great quality and great value
There's no guarantee that this (or any) saddle will be comfortable you - we're all different shapes and you'd have to try it - but in terms of quality it is exceptionally well constructed. Its heavy so not one for those looking to build a lightweight bike, but for everyone else its hard to fault the construction, this feels like it will last forever. It also comes beautifully boxed and wrapped. It suits someone who rides in a relatively upright riding position - if your pelvis is rotated forwards (aggressive riding position) then it is noticeably less comfortable. I found that getting fit was important, since the leather is relatively slippy and doesn't grip your shorts in position as synethic saddle materials do

Very sturdy and comfortable
The price goes up over time but the quality is still there. I bought my first saddle 30 years ago. It took some breaking in! I'm not sure if it was me or the saddle that broke in but once we achieved harmony it was always comfortable. Unfortunately the rail broke and I had to buy a new one. This was just as comfortable straight from the off. I can't see why I won't get another 30 years of use out of it.

B17 My favourite.
This is my favourite saddle. Give it 50 miles and a coat of linseed oil on the inside face of the leather. The seat will mould to your shape and you WILL be comfortable.

A revelation
We all know that a Brooks B17saddle is not an inexpensive purchase, but their comfort once broken is is legendary and they gave a habit of lasting for years. Saddle comfort has always been the limiting factor in my ability to ride longer distances, and Iโd tried all kinds of saddles made from synthetics and gels etc, but 8-10 miles was enough to have me wishing it was over. Overall, Iโve almost certainly spent more on inferior saddles than I would have spent if Iโd just bought a Brooks in the first place! My saddle was supplied without any Proofide, which was an inconvenience because you have to treat the leather prior to use. I believe that once upon a time they were supplied with a small sachet of it so you could use it straight away, but sadly this no longer appears to be the case. However, once Iโd sorted some, it was applied over the underside of the saddle and left whilst the top was also treated but then polished off as directed. A quick try in the garden wasnโt very promising, as the surface of the saddle was super slippery. I knew this wasnโt down to the Proofide, as I had also given it a quick try whilst waiting for the Proofide to be delivered. A quick internet search later, and it would seem that saddle angle is super critical - my fault for not checking this properly first and just doing it by eye. I adjusted the saddle with a spirit level to get it completely horizontal and tried again. Perfect this time, and the slippery feel was no longer an issue. I took the bike out for a quick shakedown ride, as Iโd also fitted an adjustable stem and made a few other adjustments so I was carrying a few tools. 16 miles later, I remembered Iโd told the wife Iโd be back in a few minute . . . oops! Now, bearing in mind this saddle has by no means been broken in, the fact that Iโve instantly been stable to double my time in the saddle instantly bodes very well for the future, but Iโm more than happy with my purchase. I just have two negative points to make. 1. A sachet of Proofide included would be a welcome touch 2. Quality control could be improved upon. The rivets have been poorly finished, especially on the underside and the top of the saddle was marked Neither of these are a deal breaker, but a little disappointing on a premium product. Would I buy it again? Sure, but I really donโt think Iโll ever need to. Every product I review is one I have purchased myself. I rely on unbiased reviews when making shopping choices so thatโs exactly what youโll get from me. If you do find my review useful, please click on the Helpful button. Thanks

Great, comfortable saddle for long races
The saddle that was bought with a primary purpose of providing comfort over 300km endurance race. I hesitated at first, leaning towards modern seats with cut-outs, but after all followed friends recommendations and bought it. It was quite comfortable straight out of the package, and it became even better after 600-700km of training sessions. I am happy to say that at no point over 10 hour race did I think about the seat or experienced any discomfort, it became extension of the body, and I think that is the best that can be said about the saddle. Bonus points - it was funny and uplifting to look at the faces of few fellow cyclists with standard race bike seats, who were very sceptical about the choice of Brooks in the beginning. That look on the face, feeling the amount of Brooks comfort after riding 100km on less comfy seats, you can't fake it. Make sure you choose the right style for your bike, and enjoy the rides!

Beautifully Made, Stylish and Comfortable Out of the Box
This is a beautifully made saddle by a very well established manufacturer. It may take a little time for the leather to give and fit your backside, but it will. I found it pretty comfortable out of the box, even so it has improved over time and is now very comfortable, despite still being quite hard to the touch. You will see reviews of these saddles saying you need to cover a thousand miles before they become comfortable, while this may be true for some, I would suggest it is time spent in the saddle rather than distance travelled that is important, so don't be put off by this. They are well worth the money.

The best.
Itโs a superb saddle. Needs some care for the year round commute. The cover will be necessary if itโs always rainy.

Traditioneller Komfort mit langer Einlaufzeit โ Ein Sattel fรผrs Leben

Lovely fit
This is my 3rd Brooks (two B17 and one B15) and like my previous saddles I've been lucky that they have been comfortable straight from the box. My oldest Brooks is now like sitting on my favourite armchair , these are the best saddles in the world, if they're not comfortable when you first start riding, perciver, you won't regret it.

Here's what they don't tell you
So this magic seat is hard but it's supposed to be incredibly comfortable? It takes hundreds of miles of break in but after that it's nirvana. It's old technology but it's far better than any of the latest and greatest technologies. Hard to believe, right? Here's the deal - the concept of this seat is very simple - it's a hammock seat - meaning instead of sitting on a bunch of padding you sit on a suspension of material. I think the break in factor is an illusion - almost every bike seat I've ever used was uncomfortable at first before getting used to it. So what if people are just getting used to it? I ride motorcycles too - and realized early on that a "plush" seat is horrible after a 2+ hour ride. Why - because what was soft is now creating pressure and bottoming out where it shouldn't. Instead, a harder seat is far superior. Same applies here. So what model to choose? Is this size the same as the narrower or really wide ones? Here's the part they don't tell you - it's all about seating angle. If you ride at a more aggressive angle - you need a narrower seat sized to your sit bones. If you sit upright - you need a wider seat sized to your tuchus. Here's something you can try with your CURRENT seat - without buying anything. Ride 100 yards at the most upright position you can. Stop. Now ride 100 yards at the about a 45 degree angle representing a touring or casual mountain bike. Now ride 100 yards at about a 60 degree angle which represents a more racing/professional/hard core rider position. Which feels best to you? Your seat will tell you which is best. That's the angle the seat was designed for. Now comes the B17. The B17 is the longest running model in the Brooks line - cool, right? It's significantly wider at about 170 mm compared to 140mm for a typical road or mountain bike seat. But the real question is what are your site bones? If you have sit bones that are wider, get the B17 or C19. If you have average build but want comfort, get a B17 or C17. For you narrower people, I have nothing but resentment and fomo so you're on your own. Do you get the B17 if you ride a beach cruiser? No - get a wider model. For some riders it will "work" but not because it's the right model but because it's a happy coincidence with body type. The B17 is for people that want a 45 degree to 60 degree riding angle and have the right sit bones to use it. It's not a "sit up on top" seat. From a pure aesthetic perspective the seat is absolutely gorgeous. The leather is top notch and if it breaks in further I will be ecstatic - but it's already quite comfortable for riding and a huge improvement over my 140mm stock seat. Looking forward to many miles. Are there other seats that would provide just as much comfort? Probably. Is this an awesome seat filled with history and eclectic British style? Oh yeah. I never knew these existed until recently. Knew I had to have one. You do, too. Just pick the right one based on site bones, riding style and riding angle.
