TOMLYN Laxatone Tuna-Flavored Hairball Remedy Gel for Cats and Kittens, 2.5oz

One of my cats is a MLH cat so she has an issue with hairballs. I give this to her on a regular basis to make sure that the hairballs pass through her system & it works! I have also used this after surgery to other cats, when their system is 'off kilter' with success. It is gentle product & causes no distress. Most cats get used to the Tuna flavour, & giving it to them has never been a problem.

It works! One of the best malt past products I have bought for my 20 year old cat who often has constipation issues. Does she like it? Not really but then again she has tried many brands and does not like any. Anyone with cats knows how difficult it is to get them to "like" things like malt paste or even special dry food from the Vet's etc.!

If only my cats would eat it!! They hate the smell and run when i bring it out. I tend to sneak up to them and put it on their paws. Doesn't solve the hair ball problem, if they keep running off.

My cat just just finds a way to lick around it, even when mixed in with food, or just not eat the food. It's a taste thing so maybe it works fine for other cats. She is old and is getting fussy.

My baby, Bitty, was constipated. She normally poops daily and she hadn’t pooped a good poop in 2 days. She had only pooped a couple very small (quarter sized) poops in 2 days and she seemed to be in discomfort. I already had this product from the summer when she seemed to be hacking up more hairballs. This was actually the first time she had ever been constipated. She is 5 years, and 2 months old, and her undercoat just recently came in over the summer (bad timing, I know!) and we also recently got a kitty that she cleans too. Anyway- I tried just feeding it to her on a spoon thinking it would be like a treat, no go. I tried mixing it with her wet food that she gets in the morning, no go. So I asked my co-worker that had recommended it, she said to mix it with Gerber baby food, I tried all the flavors I thought she might like, no go. So then I followed the instructions on the label that basically say if you can’t mix it, put it on their nose or paws. It’s extremely sticky so I felt really bad doing this, and I’m sure you will too if you love your animal, which I have no doubt you do since you’re still reading this. Anyway, I put it on her paw and of course, since she’s a clean freak, she licked it off (it took awhile, when I say it’s sticky, I mean sticky.) The next morning I expected a big poop in the litter box and there wasn’t one. So I doubled the dose the second day, around the same time. She was still having like 3-4 quarter sized poops, so on the third day, I tripled the dose. And please don’t do what I did! It is not in the directions on the back at all. I’m a nurse, so of course, I think I am above directions- which I am not, and I know I should know better, but of course I started googling complications of constipation in cats, and mega-colon and all these things came up so I figured diarrhea was better than death. (Since as a nurse I’m programmed to think worst case scenario all the time). Anyway on the 4th day she started having diarrhea and it lasted for about 3-4 days. The first couple poops that came out were hard and firm from where she was constipated, but after that my poor baby lived by the litter box for the next couple days. I say that to say this- the product 100% works. Don’t be like me and try to rush the results. ESPECIALLY if you have an older cat. Luckily my Bitty is only 5, but if she was elderly I could have dehydrated her! Anyway the product is amazing and works, only downside is your cat might not like the flavor or texture, but if he or she needs it then I’m sure you’ll find a way to get it down. Also now that Bitty is all better, i started giving her hairball control dry food, and I put a probiotic supplement in her wet food in the morning to keep her regular. It’s been about a month since the constipation, and we haven’t had any issues.

Our cat was having the worst time with hairballs and couldn’t cough them up. She would just make these horrible coughing sounds, but with no results. At one point, we had to take her to the vet because she was so plugged up with hair! After that visit I tried a few different remedies, chews and such, but she didn’t like them. Then I found this gel! She likes the taste and our hairball troubles seem to be a thing of the past! I just put a little strip of it along the bottom edge of her food bowl when feeding wet food. I tried putting it on her paw to lick off, but that just made a sticky mess! The gel is thick and kind of has the same color and appearance as molasses, so it’s noticeable if it gets on furniture or the carpet. This is the second 2.5oz size tube I’ve purchased and think I will get the larger 4.25oz size next time.

My cat wasn't wanting to eat/use the litter box so I decided to try this. I did the trick of wiping it on his paw and letting him lick it off. Surprisingly it worked. My cat is very picky. He doesn't like wet food and will only eat one type of treats and even then he can take it or leave it. So that's a plus. I didn't notice a real change in his bathroom habits so I'm not sure the real effect it had on him in that regard. This could also be my fault as I only gave him about 5 doses, but that does seem like enough to make an impact.

My Birman, Meow does not shed, so I have to brush his coat frequently, and he’s also constantly grooming, causing infrequent disgusting hairball regurgitation. He’s an extremely finicky cat when it comes to food, and he won’t drink water that he’s already lapped. A fountain doesn’t help. I just use 3 bowls, which I have to clean and refill daily. I bought the Tuna flavored gel, and dabbed a small amount on a pellet of dried food, then concealed it amongst the rest of the food in his bowl. As he went to his bowl to eat, he sniffed suspiciously, walked around and sniffed the perimeter of the bowl, looked at me, mewed, then walked away. After several repeations of the initial behavior, he would not eat from that bowl. I had to put fresh food in another bowl, then he paid me the courtesy of eating. Several more efforts proved futile, so I gave up. I am left with an almost full tube of useless gel. I am reluctant to give products low ratings due to end user issues. I wish the Star Rating System was more flexible. My cat did not like the product, which I’m sure is effective. I paid for a product which I am unable to use, and what would be the point in returning such a low cost item? (I’d used another brand for a Persian I had several years ago and it worked.)
