Sanzo Wada (1883-1967) was an artist, teacher, costume and kimono designer during a turbulent time in avant-garde Japanese art and cinema. Wada was ahead of his time in developing traditional and Western influenced colour combinations, helping to lay the foundations for contemporary colour research. Based on his original 6-volume work from the 1930s, this book offers 348 color combinations, as attractive and sensuous as the books own design. Review: Beautiful book - Absolutely love this book would highly recommend for people who love color and are interested in Japanese history. Review: A Beautifully Curated Visual Resource – Inspiring for Artists and Designers Alike - I purchased A Dictionary of Color Combinations Vol. 1 as a gift for my wife, who studied art, and she absolutely loved it. The book is a visually rich, thoughtfully organized reference that offers timeless and unique color palettes drawn from traditional Japanese design principles. Each page presents carefully selected color combinations that spark creativity and serve as inspiration for any kind of visual work—painting, design, fashion, or interior styling. The minimalist layout makes it not just practical but also beautiful to flip through. Whether you’re a trained artist, designer, or simply someone who appreciates the power of color, this book is a highly rewarding and elegant resource. It makes a fantastic gift and a lasting addition to any creative library. Strongly recommended.

Great resource for color design.
This is a very interesting product. I think it would make a great gift for a young person interested in interior design. The aesthetic of the book is beautiful with classy pages and the colors are nice and saturated.

Such a fun book!
I’ve been wanting to get this book ever since I saw someone talking about it months ago. It really makes you think about the way colors interact with each other and how to find fun color combinations in every day life such as in clothing or your home. The book was in great condition when in arrived and was exactly as described.

Inspiring. All-encompassing. Useful for any creative person.
A remarkable composite of colour swatches in 2,3, and 4 colour grouping variations that any creative person, artist, or patron of the arts can find useful, inspiring, and or helpful within their craft or as a means to simply better understand the colours. I recommend getting both editions as the second edition contains samples of colours and how they may appear on every day materials like clothes and wares (albeit from the 1930s). However, this first edition, alone, provides a remarkable foundation. I am so glad I came across this! Highly recommend.
