Family adventure based on the novel by Roald Dahl. The film centres around an eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka (Johnny Depp), and Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore), a good-hearted boy from a poor family who lives in the shadow of Wonka's extraordinary factory. Most nights in the Bucket home, dinner is a watered-down bowl of cabbage soup, which young Charlie gladly shares with his mother (Helena Bonham Carter) and father (Noah Taylor) and both pairs of grandparents. They all live in a tiny, tumbledown, drafty old house but it is filled with love. Every night, the last thing Charlie sees from his window is the great factory, and he drifts off to sleep dreaming about what might be inside. For nearly fifteen years, no one has seen a single worker going in or coming out of the factory, or caught a glimpse of Willy Wonka himself, yet, mysteriously, great quantities of chocolate are still being made and shipped to shops all over the world. One day Willy Wonka makes a momentous announcement. He will open his famous factory and reveal 'all of its secrets and magic' to five lucky children who find golden tickets hidden inside five randomly selected Wonka chocolate bars. When Charlie finds some money on the snowy street and takes it to the nearest store for a Wonka Whipple-Scrumptious Fudgemallow Delight he finds a golden ticket. The family decides that Grandpa Joe (David Kelly) should be the one to accompany Charlie on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Once inside, Charlie is dazzled by one amazing sight after another. It manages to update and take advantage of modern effects available to bring it up to date, without losing the magic. Johnny Depp is wonderfully wacky as Willy Wonka, who entertains us with truly great acting. The film also provides a little history of how Willy came to have the Umpa Lumpas in his factory and a snapshot into his childhood, showing us why he has such a love of sweets which inspired him to build his factory and invent such wonderful confectionary. The Umpa Lumpa’s are truly fantastic, and provide the singing in this film (which unlike the original, isn’t a musical) with short, catchy songs as each child meets their fate as a result of their greed. Lots of big names in this film to watch out for too. I have a collection of movies that I only watch in December in the Christmas season. It's my Christmas movie collection and this is one of those movies. I know this isn't particularly a Christmas movies , but when I was a child in the 80's this was on TV every year around christmas time. So now it reminds me of Christmas. I watched this on a Panasonic 4K Blu Ray player ups sled in 4K and the picture and sound is improved over the DVD which I've had with a few years. Also I must thank the company that sold the movie to me. The first first BLU Ray went AWOL during delivery and they sent me a second Disk almost immediately. I will buy from them again.

Top-notch movie
This is such a great movie. My family love it. Johnny Depp is amazing in his role. So happy to have the DVD as its not shown often enough on TV. Couldn't find it on streaming services either!

Chocolate with Burton Sprinkles
A wonderfully colourful Burtonesque re-telling of a classic Roald Dahl story. Johnny Depp brings the character of willy wonka to life and although this version is a little more on the darker side of storytelling when compared to the Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory [Blu-ray] [1971 ] version. It is beautifully executed and although the back storyline of Wonkas father came as a suprise to me, I thought the film was delightful. The film is crisp and clear on the blu ray and the HD multi sound track compliments the glorious images. The are also a decent selection of extras on the disk which is something sadly lacking in so many blu ray offerings. So in the event you didn't find a golden ticket in your wonka bar, don't panic! just sit back and enjoy this film :)

Johnny Depp
Everyone compares this to the original with Gene Wilder but you cannot compare them. Gene Wilder makes this his own at the time but Johnny Depp outshines him. Love this film. Arrived earlier than expected and very good quality.

My grandsons love this film, always like to watch it, they borrowed it from me but have yet to get it back but I don't mind because it was worth buying.

J'ai utilisé le DVD en élément de comparaison avec le texte original de Roald dahl, il y a quelques adaptations, mais le jeu de Johnny depp et l'univers de Tim Burton est vraiment extraordinaire, digne de Willy Wonka. A voir!
