I reviewed the exact same model, and that review included a photo of the Alox Pioneer X complete with split ring attached, as shipped. (The keychain and mini LED flashlight are my own, not and were not included ;)

How many layers does this model have? 5?

I consider my Pioneer X Alox to have 4 layers of tools. The metal scales are thinner than the classic plastic, so there is no room for tweezers, toothpick or pen. The quality is really very good, and I am very pleased with it.

Does it come in a box?

It comes in the standard small silver Victorinox card box. Nothing fancy but it does it's job.

Does this version come with the split ring attachment built in? The picture shows no split ring.

The victorinox pioneer X dose come with a nib on the end of the liner ware the split ring is attached, the picture is not actuate as you have spotted no key ring show also the nail nick for the scissors isn't shown it's on the top, the victorinox site has a better picture. The liners are nickel silver, not stanless steel, hope this helps, good knife.
