The FRITZ!Box 4040 is the more technically advanced version of the 4020. It has a lot of impressive features, which might not be obvious at first. Compared with the 4020, it has Gigabyte capable LAN and WAN; 2 USB ports (one USB3 capable); dual band Wi-Fi (2.4 MHz & 5 MHz). Currently (July 2017), there only appears to be an international version available. Consequently, the plug-in power supply has a European style plug. A suitable adapter or a replacement power supply unit will be needed. The quick start guide contained in the box was in German. A multi-language version is available on the manufacturer’s website. Only a German language user guide could be found. If one wants to know more, obtaining the English version of the 4020 user guide would be a practical choice. The FRITZ!Box 4040 is a neat looking devices. It is reasonably versatile with a good range of configuration options. Unfortunately, some of the options were difficult to find. Slowly and systematically working through the menus was a worthwhile exercise. The options are generally easy to configure. The graphical display, of wireless channels in use, can be useful to a degree. Unfortunately, the representation of the overlapping channels for the 2.4 MHz band is technically inaccurate, which limits its use. Guest access for LAN and/or WLAN is possible, which gives the ability to run a separately isolated guest network from the router. There are a number of options to save power e.g. limit ports to 100 Mb/s rather than 1 Gb/s. It was possible to successfully set up an advanced network configuration; something that a router of a well-known North American brand had issues with. The ability to import relevant setting, which have been saved from another FRITZ!Box model, can be useful. Overall, the FRITZ!Box 4040 appears to be a better than average router. It appears to be reasonable value for money. I would certainly buy it again. The lack of UK-plug version and an English language manual might make it better suited to the more technical user.

I had it setup and forgot about it . Absolutely no issue with it, almost everywhere full signal and full speed on the phone and laptop over 10m away, passing through cable 2 RPi and one PC with an SSD on the USB3 as NAS. Well documented, if you know what you want the site has the procedure. Everything I needed it for, setup and forget. One thing to remember, in UK you need an adaptor, it will come with EU style power adapter.

Great router - but maybe better for geeks and nerds. It is a german product with decent english language support but yo may need to switch from german when setting up. It has loads of features - with top notch technology. Fritz! are very good a routers. Highly recommended if you need a really good quality router. I would suggest comparing Fritz! models to check that you order the exact model for your needs.

I brought this 4040 to replace my BT SmartHub which has its issues, so its being connected to my Fibre Modem (ONT) and needs to be able to handle at least 300 Mbps bandwidth, which it does. While this product is a very good one, it really needs to be updated to state that it is not really suitable for the UK due to it comes with an EU 2 pin mains plug of the adaptor, which is shown in the supplied image. I was lucky I had an old UK version of a FRITZ!Box 3390 which had a compatible UK PSU, so I am using that. And yes, I could of used an EU plug adapter, but you shouldn't have to, plus they stick out a lot making it easy for it to fall out. All instructions seems to be in German, so if you cannot read German you are on your own when setting up this product. Luckily, when you first power it up you are asked what language you want to use, but I have noticed with FRITZ Products in general is that not everything is translated to the selected language, you might select English when you first setup the product, and you will still have buttons with German text on it, this is resolved when you flash it with the latest firmware. Overall, once this router had all been setup and everything I didn't want was turned off (including the WPS feature) it worked fine, so I was very happy. I would of given it a 5/5 due to the fact its a nice product, sadly due to the lack of information and the contents etc, I give it a 4/5.

Questo router Wifi della AVM (in effetti è un router + access point wireless che può fare anche da repeater) è un ottimo prodotto, specie se acquistato usato magari in occasione di sconti (come succede nel periodo del Black Friday ma anche in altri giorni a sorpresa) per integrare e potenziare la rete di casa. In particolare rispetto ad un prezzo di 50-60 euro massimo, viste le funzionalità di cui è dotato, lo stra-consiglio come acquisto specie in alternativa di un semplice repeater che costa la metà, o addirittura al posto di uno switch per ampliare il numero di porte di un altro modem o router per collegarci più apparecchi Il router AVM Fritz!Box 4040 è in vendita già da qualche anno, quindi nel 2021 non è più al top come standard di trasmissione e velocità wireless, mentre per la connessione Ethernet la velocità è quella dello standard ancora attuale pari a 1 Gbit/s che va più che bene per tantissimi , a meno che non siete professionisti che aprite ed elaborate grandi file (immagini, ecc.) salvati su NAS su rete interna… e allora certamente non starete leggendo la mia recensione ;-). Infatti rispetto ad un normale repeater troverete: - la potenza del sistema Fritz!OS per il settaggio delle funzioni del router; - una interfaccia grafica veramente degna di questo nome e che umilia la concorrenza tipo ASUS o Netgear che sono marche che pure uso; - una serie di funzionalità e configurazioni che soddisfano le esigenze base di un principiante ma anche quelle di chi vuole avere un maggiore controllo sulla connessione (orari, accesso dall'esterno, filtri vari, ecc.), la condivisione di file, e tanto altro; - 4 porte Ethernet + una di collegamento alla rete che un comune repeater se le sogna (a parte qualche vecchio apparecchio tipo Netgear EX7000 o ASUS RP-AC68U che però sono entrambi non più in vendita); - 1 porte USB 3.0 ad alta velocità per collegare un disco magari un SSD per memorizzare un bel po’ di dati sempre facilmente accessibili, personalmente finora ad un NAS centralizzato e magari con la sicurezza del RAID preferisco una serie di alcuni SSD collegati a router/repeater, specializzati ciascuno per tipi di file (FILM, MUSICA, ecc.). In questo caso fate attenzione ai dispositivi che ci collegate, con lo standard USB 3 ci sono emissioni sulla frequenza 2.4 GHz che è quella di trasmissione del Wifi, quindi se collegate ad esempio dischi di qualche sottomarca economica potrebbero avere un cavo USB non ben protetto dalle emissioni interferenti e la connessione cadrà rapidamente, parlo per esperienza; - 1 porta USB 2.0 di vecchia generazione, utile per collegare dispositivi a bassa velocità quindi non raccomandabile per aprire file da remoto (anche se non è impossibile), oppure per rendere wireless una stampante non dotata di Wifi… una cosa abbastanza utile nel 2016, ma attualmente forse non fondamentale… una seconda USB 3 sarebbe stata meglio, ma per il prezzo pagato non c’è da lamentarsi. I pochi svantaggi di questo router economico ma a basso prezzo rispetto ad un semplice repeater sono presto detti: - la dimensione non consente il montaggio direttamente su presa elettrica ottenibile con i repeater compatti, ma richiede un mobile o mensola su cui appoggiare l’apparecchio; - quando si esplorano i file condivisi su disco collegato alla porta USB dell’apparecchio, utilizzando una smart TV, uno smartphone o altro client DLNA, non è possibile vedere direttamente il disco con le sottodirectory, ma viene proposta una classificazione preventiva di Musica, Immagini, Film (oltre Radiio Web e Podcast) e una volta selezìonata una delle categorie si può esplorare il disco, vedendo quindi una sola tipologia di file multimediali alla volta… forse è una facilitazione per trovare le cose in uno spazio di archiviazione molto grande, a me però non piace granché. In conclusione consiglio l’acquisto se c’è uno sconto, ad esempio per un usato di Warehouse Deals, non è l’ultima versione dei router AVM, ma con poca spesa si ottiene tanto, un dispositivo molto versatile e potente.

Bisher hatte ich ein kombiniertes Modem/WLAN-Router von meinem Provider: Connect Box von UPC Österreich (= Unitymedia). Gerät war nicht schlecht, die WLAN Verbindung jedoch immer wieder nachlassend, manueller Eingriff in die Kanalauswahl (über Programm UPC WLAN Optimizer) erforderlich. Um im Wohnzimmer auch eine gute Internetverbindung zu haben, hatte ich von Devolo ein DLAN 500+ und ein altes 200er WLAN 200 Modul im Einsatz. Zuerst habe ich die alte Devolo 200 WLAN mit einem Fritz Repeater 1750e ersetzt. Das hat schon mal eine wesentliche Verbesserung gebracht. Beim IPTV Streamen gab es aber immer wieder nach 15-20 Minuten kurze Aussetzer. Da ich mich über MESH WLAN schlau gemacht habe und zudem einen Router mit DoS für IPTV wollte, habe ich mir die 4040er Fritzbox ausgesucht. Ein Upgrade auf MESH soll ja nächstes Jahr kommen. Die ganzen anderen Funktionen (DECT, ...) der 7590 brauchte ich nicht. Daher reicht mir ein reiner WLAN Router Was soll ich sagen: TOP-Gerät. Die Benutzeroberfläche ist super. Und: das Heimnetz ist subjektiv wesentlich stabiler als vorher mit der Connect Box (in Österreich gibt es keine freie Modemwahl; daher Connect Box nur im Bridgemode und DHCP&WLAN abgeschaltet). Die WLAN Versorgung ist wesentlich besser/schneller als vorher, die fallweisen Aussetzer bei IPTV gibt es bis dato nicht mehr. Ich schalte das WLAN in der Nacht fix ab, damit sucht die Fritzbox beim Wiedereinschalten automatisch die besten 2,4&5GHz Kanäle. Super gemacht von AVM! Wenn dann noch das Mesh Upgrade da ist und ich in der ganzen Wohnung die gleiche WLAN Stärke habe, ist das dann das Sahnehäubchen. Um die nur rd. 80 EUR ein Top-Router! Es mag wesentlich billigere Router geben; aber der Mehrpreis für ein deutsches Qualitätsprodukt mit einer derart super Bedien-Oberfläche, ist auf die Lebensdauer des Gerätes umgelegt, zu vernachlässigen!

Lo compré un Viernes por la tarde y me llegó el Sabado a media mañana (Increible rapidez) . Tengo contratado una conexion a internet de 600/600 Mbps pero el ordenador lo tengo bastante lejos del router y con wifi directamente no conseguia mas de 50 Mbps y bastante inestable. He instalado el Fritzbox 4040 con el repetidor Fritz!Repeater 1200 y ahora tengo en el ordenador una velocidad de 400 Mbps muy estable y sin cortes. Despues de 2 dias de uso intensivo (9 dispositivos conectados por wifi y uno con cable) mi experiencia no puede ser mejor. El control parental es de lo mejor que he visto y se puede configurar horarios, tiempo de uso y puedes cambiar los DNS por si necesitas usar soluciones como OpenDNS para filtrado de contenidos para adultos. Lo recomiendo al 100%

Prima wifirouter ook als mesh in te stellen. Gigabit Lan en ac wifi. Met meerdere fritzboxen als meshnetwerk in te stellen. Stabiel netwerk mee gekregen.

Le produit a été reçu dans son emballage d'origine qui a déjà été ouvert. L'appareil est propre et ne porte pas de traces d'utilisation. L'alimentation semble neuve ainsi que le câble réseau plat qui n'a pas servi. Après connexion, tout semble parfait et le routeur a été dans sa configuration d'origine sauf... un oubli des deux ordinateurs dans le log qui n'a pas été effacé. Donc, c'est bien un produit utilisé et retourné à Amazon. Après mise à jour du Firmware et une configuration bureautique complète, je ne lui trouve aucun défaut. Tout est fonctionnel et l'offre des services de AVM est assez surprenante. J'ai essayé toutes ses fonctionnalités et je suis assez surpris du savoir-faire de AVM. La livraison a été faite par DHL. Ce ne sont pas les plus rapides, mais le produit a été livré dans les temps malgré la neige ! Pas de regret d'achat pour un prix de presque 50% moins cher qu'un appareil neuf et pour un produit garanti 5 ans par le fabricant.
