I got this as a gift for my mum who loves the original marple. She loves it and had happily watched it several times. Great gift!

Wonderful attention to period detail. Excellent casting, and Joan Hickson is difficult to beat.

I have been told that Agatha Christie said that Joan Hickson would make a great Miss Marple when she was older. If it is true, it was very prophetic, if it is not true, it is still true. Joan Hickson is a great Miss Marple. The detail to the period, the clothing and settings are wonderful and a treat. This hails from a time when such things were important, sadly this is no longer important when the powers that be are making period pieces. The script keeps fairly close to the original novels, no strange or odd tangents or ideas from people who think they can improve that Christie had created.

Joan Hickson really is the epitome of Miss Marple and these television dramas remain my favourite versions. The more recent adaptations are generally too dark for my taste. If I want terror and blood and gore, there are other excellent tv shows I can and do choose. For pure entertainment, with a hefty dose of nostalgia (not to mention guess the location/vintage vehicle etc), this cannot be bettered.

This review is for the BBC Box Set ‘The Miss Marple Collection’ 2012 release date. There are 12 DVD’s, each separately secured in its own (plastic) page, and there is a booklet detailing contents of each DVD with credits of the co-stars for each episode. The presentation is excellent. The 12 episodes were filmed (on super 16mm film) between 1982 and 1992, before the introduction of high definition and before the large screen TV’s available today. Nevertheless, on my 40” screen I have been pleasantly surprised at the image quality. It is more than acceptable and is somehow evocative of the period. (The BBC 1995 Pride and Prejudice was also filmed on Super 16mm film). The more recent Blu-Ray scans apparently used the original (cleaned-up) negative but only for the American market (Region 1). However, the 2012 release box set is in no way a poor relation.There are no Dutch subtitles as this is a ‘home grown’ release and better for it. Do check the ‘Product Details’ on the Amazon page. The sound is Mono. I have a TV sound bar that lends a more ‘spatial’ effect to the sound where birdsong in some scenes seems to emanate away from the TV. Every episode is a time capsule for a past era, where tea is made in a teapot and served in a cup and saucer. Joan Hickson as Miss Marple has received many well deserved plaudits for her portrayal, with excellent support from the various co-stars for each episode.

1984～1992までBCCで放送されていた、ジョーン・ヒクソンのミス・マープルです。NHKでも放送されていました。紙とプラスチック製のケーズに入っており12話でDVD12枚組です簡単な冊子も付いていました。原作に忠実で、一度見ると止め時が見つかりません。約22時間あるけど、すぐに終わってしまいました。パソコンで再生出来、英語字幕もありました。原作や、ミステリーが好きな人には特におすすめです。

I cofanetto è arrivato nei tempi di consegna segnalati Amazon in questo è insuperabile ed il cofanetto è molto ben fatto cartoncino resistente di qualità esattamente come si vede nell'immagine, all'interno ben 12 ci ognuno Ben incastonato nella sua custodia veramente ben fatto. Vi è anche allegato un piccolo,depliant esplicativo di ogni cd con elencati titoli e interpreti. I singoli ci sono ben organizzati in un piccolo menù per ognuno si può scegliere il film completo o l.singoli episodi e vi è la possibilità di selezionare i sottotitoli (sempre in lingua originale). La qualità delle immagini è quella di un film restaurato ma sicuramente ben fatto, l'audio è ottimo l'ho ascoltato con cuffie Sennheiser quindi sentito molto bene. Ottimo acquisto e la BBC ha fatto un buon lavoro! Unica pecca se così là si vuol chiamare è che è solo in lingua originale ma chi per come me ama Joan Hickson non può che essere un piacere sentirla recitare nella parte di Miss Marple per me lei è l'unica vera Miss Marple. Gli altri attori sono decisamente alla sua altezza e la loro dizione è perfetta quindi comprensibile anche ad un orecchio non anglosassone d'origine. Ottimo acquisto!!!!

Bonjour,En effet impossible de dire si j'apprécie ou pas, car le DVD est en anglais certes, mais il n'y a même pas l'option sous-titres, dont j'aurais pu me contenter, dommage !! sniffff

Ich habe schon die englische-deutsche Version zu Hause, die Untertitel sind aber leider nur auf deutsch. Da ich die Filme lieber in Originalsprache gucke, manchmal aber nicht alles verstehe, brauche ich die Untertitel. Die deutsche Übersetzung ist leider echt grottig. So werden die Sätze teilweise völlig anders übersetzt (was meines Erachtens völlig unnötig ist) oder sogar ganze Sätze schlicht dazu erfunden, im Original wird aber gar nichts gesprochen. Die Filme selber sind sehr gut und kommen sehr nah an die Miss Marple, die sich die Autorin vorgestellt hat. Ich finde zwar auch die Filme mit Margaret Rutherford sehr gut, aber mehr wegen der Schauspielerin und weil es halt echte Klassiker sind. Miss Marple ist das aber nun mal nicht, wie Agahtha Christie auch fand, obwohl sie mit Margaret Rutherford ansonsten sogar befreundet war. Joan Hickson trifft die Figur sehr viel besser und die Filme erinnern sehr an die zuvor gelesenen Bücher. Also, wer die echte Miss Marple im Original und ohne schlechte deutsche Übersetzungen sehen will....ein Muss!
