RØDE WS6 Shotgun Microphone Windshield

Less expensive wind shields have fitted loosely on my shotgun mikes and none of my attempts to prevent them sliding off have been completely satisfactory. This deluxe mike has a plastic fitting on the open end which self-adjusts to different widths of mike and grasps them securely. I have still to use it in testing conditions, but am impressed that it will help solve my problems with the cheaper wind shields. There seem to be two problems. Firstly, they are more expensive. Secondly, reviews suggest that the fitting does not last forever. My current impression is that the advantage greatly outweighs the disadvantages.

This is really helpful in light to medium windy conditions. It does a good job of reducing the wind noise. Haven't pushed it to the max yet in very windy conditions, but feel confident enough to do so. It's made a very positive difference to my filming. I'd say it's a must have if you're shooting outdoors.

Pretty good. Certainly doesn’t cut out all wind though. Haven’t done direct tests compared to the original foam shield (or cheaper alternatives) but i recommend it. Certainly get a blimp if you’re outside and need absolutely zero wind, no matter the conditions.

Really impressive at killing wind noise in low wind. Make sure to add a top end boost as this muffles the higher frequencies slightly - a know pro tip when using dead cats. If you're looking for total wind isolation in windy conditions i would reccomend the Blimp, but this is great if you're on a budget.

We do a lot of 'on location' filming in North Wales and on the coast. It get's very windy. Doesn't eliminate noise entirely, but a massive improvement on the 'dead cat' option.

Works great on my rode mic, much improvement over the standard one that comes with the mic. Excellent for outside use.

Bought mine for my Rode NTG-1 that attaches directly to an expensive Canon XA10 camcorder and with an extra short XLR cable, video productions are now professional looking and sounding while shooting outdoors. This dead cat can help minimise that annoying hidden wind rumble that occurs when recording out in the open air and with a bit of gain control via the camera, wind blowing over the mic with this dead cat attached can be better controlled. It's a tight snug fit over the NTG-1 microphone, to a point where I'm probably going to leave it attached permanently to the mic and camcorder. Having this dead cat attached to a pro-camera seems to draw a great deal of attention when out filming, where many approach asking what I am filming /recording, more so than not having the dead cat attached. Mine got delivered from France to the UK and upon ordering the supplier immediately sent a message they were currently out of stock but expecting a new batch to arrive. I got mine in less than 10 days and pleased they let me know of stock levels and happy to wait as it's sort of crucial to have for outside recordings. Not much more to really say about this product apart from it's built to fit NTG-1 & NTG-2 and an essential attachment for out side recordings, just like the pro's have.

Seems to have stopped any wind noise by somehow affecting the climate ... its been gloriously still every time I've shot outside since purchasing this, If Rode do umbrellas I will have one as it will probably never rain again.

Muy buen parabrisas y antiviento. Pero cuando en exterior el viento pasa de 30 km/hora aprox se cuelan los malditos ruidos tan indeseados. Es cuestión de mirar el tiempo (si no tienes otra cosa) y trabajar en función del viento que hará durante el día. Sí tienes un día que el viento pasa de 27 o 30km/hora mejor rueda en interior, pero en general cumple muy bien su función.

Ok I got the deadcat 4 years ago and I boy was I dissapointed. Works in light winds but still picks up a WOOSH here and there. Thankfully this thing has dropped in price. It's WAY better. Great examples of it on youtube. If you already own a deadcat, I'd recommend figuring out how to wrap it around some tougher foam. There are examples of how to make cheap windscreen but if yo ualready ahve the deadcat material which is probably better than what you can get at walmart, than you are 90% there. Anyway if you don't have any windscreen, get this. It's GREAT.

Really great quality. I've had wind screens in the past with a lot of play but this fits snuggly and designed not to move around while not obstructing sound quality.

Ich benutze damit ein Sennheiser MKE600 und entschied mich aus Kostengründen für den RODE WS-6 anstelle des Sennheiser-Windschutz, der etwa 15,- Euro teurer ist und wohl identisch. Der Windschutz macht einen hochwertigen Eindruck und dämpft die Windgeräusche ausreichend ab. Tolles, kostengünstiges Equipment in Profi-Qualität.
