Very good opener

Love it, finally a can opener that works like when I was younger. Much cheaper quality than the I had as a kid (of course), but lifts the lid off with the cut so super clean to use.

Can be used by right or left handed person. Fits easily on top of tin to be opened and then the top is easily discarded. Sturdy article

I was so over the moon to see this tin opener available to buy. We had one just like this from Ikea which went blunt after about 15 years and they've changed their design. The replacement one we bought was absolutely god awful and really big to keep in the drawer. This one just works perfectly every time and is so much more compact. I'm left handed and I can use it just as easily as everyone else in the house. I love it. Tempted to buy another in case they go unavailable again.

Being left handed, I struggled with traditional openers and actually preferrred the old bladed type that used to leave the lethal jagged edges. That all changed back in the mid eighties when WL (later bought by Culinare i believe) released this lift-off can opener. I still have the two bought back then, and they can still open cans though the metal bits finally rusted to make them unusable for food. I had been using varying cheapo imitations for a few years, lamenting the unavailability of the lift-off original. One night i decided to have a look around and see if any new-fangled can openers were on the market to relieve my opening stresses. Imagine my complete and utter delight, when fairly high up on my search list, was a link to these babies here on Amazon. I pulled the trigger without hesitation and waited impatiently for delivery. The day came, I unpacked the opener and decided to have beans-on-toast for lunch. I was bricking it! What if the openers were a pale imitation of the original? I positioned the opener on the lip of the can and closed the handle. It bit into the side of the can like a good 'un. I turned the knob and the can opening progressed smoothly. This baby appears to be almost identical to the original - cosmetic differences only. Regular use has proved it durable too. I wish they dod them in different colours like the originals, but as long as they stay availalble I will be happy - may buy a second just in case. Get one whichever hand you use. They make opening cans a pleasure.

It does what it says on the tin and then even opens the tin. A key lesson I have found in life is, buy cheap buy twice. If you are poor student then it's for you and it will work and probably for a few years. But if you invest in a higher quality one, it will last you a lifetime. So it falls into the category of good but not great.

Like Cal (02/05/12), I've been using a "WL" can opener for around 20 years. It's been brilliant! It does a great job and is easy to use, and has certainly had a very very long life. Of late though, it has started to slip a little on every alternative half turn. I've been searching for a replacement for some time, but feared that WL openers were so good, they'd gone out of business. I was delighted when I came across this Culinare model, as it is the same model. Perhaps not actually from the same mould though, as the handle is just slightly longer by a few millimetres. Having done a little digging on Google, I do believe that the Culinare Lift Off is the direct descendent of the WL model. My old opener was marked WL Housewares. WL seems to stand for William Levene. Inside the handle is the company name Mike & Kremmel Ltd. The Culinare opener also bears the name Mike & Kremmel Ltd inside the handle. William Levene Ltd (whose brands included several other well known names such as Cole & Mason) was acquired by Diethelm Keller Brands Ltd in 2006 (DKB Household UK). Long Live the "Lift Off"!

Works great. Even on smaller cans. Only caveat is sometimes lid is difficult to remove from opener.

Exakt was ich (leider sehr lange) gesucht habe. Dieser Dosenöffner öffnet Dosen noch unter dem Deckelrand. Funktioniert einwandfrei, selbst bei ungewöhnlichen Dosenformen.
