Do you eat the food cold from this box if it's not microwaveable?

Hi, The box is made of wood, so it's not microwaveable. You can put in salads, hard boiled eggs, pieces of fruit, sandwiches or mini rolls, rice balls wrapped in nori, but you cannot microwave it, unless you want to torch the whole place.

How much does this product weight when empty?

Hi friend ,this product weight when empty is about 330g,it is lighter.Welcome for your order.

Can this be used as a single layer as well as double?

The lid just rests on top so I would imagine you could. You would need a smaller bento band to keep the lid in place. I’ve only ever used it as a double layer box though.

Is there a way to get additional/spare straps?

Absolutely no idea! Nearest craft store for something elasticated plus needle and thread.
