a 'nice' book - frustrating because it could have been better
Techniques are well shown with clear photos and interesting in their variations. Example work shown is not totally inspiring and lacks links with multi cultural and historical pieces which is I feel a missed opportunity. The photo spanning p88 - 89 is shocking quality and suggests lack of professional finish to the book. But overall it's a quietly 'nice' book on a technique not much covered in contemporary stitch books. It's made me want to develop my skills further .......

OK for the price but lacking in some areas
This book is OK as an introduction to Kantha and is priced much lower than any other. The illustrations aren't particularly clear (It would have been better to show the steps in individual boxes), and the rather uppity tone of the writing lets it down - the author comes over as full of herself and very keen on her status as an 'artist' rather than a craftsperson. No sources, substitutions or recommendations are given for items such as 'turban cloth' or thread, though I could work out from the images that, for instance, Madeira six-strand is used. However, the author's work is beautiful (especially the monochrome pieces) and at the back of the book there are outlines to copy if you don't do your own drawings. I've been able to create some kantha pieces following the instructions, so the book has fulfilled its purpose but I'll be looking for another one.

Excellent but not for me
This is a beautifully produced book, lovely to handle; interesting landscape format. However, for me, it was too much of a beginners book. I was looking for something beyond traditional Kantha and am now producing a piece of work using the technique but following a contemporary theme.

Inspirational book - beautiful finished projects
Inspirational book! Perfect. Keep picking up and reading. Showing to everyone. Lovely photos of amazing pieces. Clear, concise, easy to understand details re stitching, designs etc. And the history of Kantha. Relatively new to Kantha work but decades of hand stitching flooded back. Love it!!!! Already produced a number of smaller pieces and there’s a commission in the pipeline. So excited. Relaxing to do yet seem to get lots done (time just disappears) so many project ideas already tumbling around. Arrived on time, well packed and in perfect condition. Will use supplier again.

I found this book fun to look at and it provides a rich vein of ideas for a new stitching idea that I had never heard of. It will be interesting to see if I can produce anything half as good as shown in the examples.

Great little book with simple inspiring ideas.
I love this little book as I enjoy kantha work.......simple designs, but a great basis for future projects. Would definitely recommend for lovers of this ‘basic’ stitch.
