Love the size and potential at this price, but this puts a big dent in my ham budget. What's the final verdict on reliability???

I have had no complaints. While my x108g is used mostly mobile. I have made contacts all over the US and Europe on SSB. I have also used it at my home QTH when my primary radio had to go to hospital. Both voice and digital it works well. Note: Run on lower power on PSK31 and such as they are 100% duty cycle TX, and the radio will get warm. It will be difficult to find something on the market to beat the price.

so does this fit where the radio would and does it have a cb band on it or is it just ham

TX. Ham radio only. Can receive CB, but a decent CB set is much cheaper.

what frequencies will it transmit on

All HF Amateur bands including the WARC bands.

will this radio tx/rx out of band? i.e. on marine ssb freqs, mars/cap, etc?

Stock it will not. If the display frequency is not in a Ham band and you try to transmit, the screen literally displays "Not a Ham Band" and will not transmit. That said, there are MARS/CAP modifications to be found online.
