Yes it is, that's where mine is. It is totally secure just like any other safety gate just a lot quicker and easier to fit without damaging the walls.

Would this attach well against a glass staircase side?

I am sure about the glass staircase . I would not use it on it if it was me . Have mine at the bottom and top of stairs and it fit perfect . Secure and safe for my two years old boy. He tried to lift it up bug in vain.... Now his next move is to use on of his bucket and try to climb over...but still no success .

Does this gate open quietly

Yes, I'm a foster carer and over the years have had several different baby gates, this one is my favourite, you do have to remember to lift it as you open, but it is quiet

What is the height of the gate?

I don't have the gate anymore - my youngest grandchild is 6. It was high enough to stop a toddler climbing over - probably not as much as a meter.
