A must have product if you’re painting walls.
I was shocked at the result of using this product. I wish I knew of it years ago. Filled holes in wall are no longer visible even when sunlight shines on the wall. Amazing. Makes for a much better finish to your decorating.

Great product but disappointing delivery
I’ve used Zinsser Gardz before and it’s an excellent product – does exactly what it should, seals surfaces really well and gives a great base for painting. I had no issues with the product itself and would definitely recommend it. Unfortunately, this particular order was delayed quite a bit, and by the time it eventually arrived I no longer needed it, so I had to return it. A shame, as the product is fantastic, but the delivery experience on this occasion was disappointing.

Absolutely Amazing
I hardly ever write a review but for this item I just had to, I have a chimney breast that had damp patches (I had a problem with the chimney flashings that I had repaired) it had caused the chimney breast wall in my dinning room to crumble in places once it had dried out, it would have been impossible to just go ahead & paint, after looking at many reviews I settles on this item, after the crumbly patches had been filled in then left to set, work began on painting this on, it went on lovely, two coats were put on, allowing drying time between them, it was then left overnight to properly set, then two coats of a raspberry coloured paint was applied with a small roller, I am so pleased with the results, I have always had a keen sense of smell but with this there was no aroma at all, my wall looks amazing, be sure to wear safety goggles when applying, it’s a lot runnier than paint & you don’t want it going into your eyes, I highly recommend this product, I have over half a tin left but it will come in useful, it’s amazing.

No complaints
Used it to seal a plaster wall that had , had wallpaper on it , filled in the cracks and sanded , then washed , once dried painted over with this to seal it in , very thin but easy to apply. Painted over once dried , paint went on top of it well , no complaints

Solution to my problem walls
I’ve had a long-standing problem with the walls in my house. I think whoever painted it originally just painted emulsion straight onto plaster, and every additional coat since has eventually flaked off to varying degrees. What I’ve ended up doing is sanding the walls to knock off the loose paint, filling the patches, sanding again, and then applying gardz to the whole wall. I’m happy to say it seems to have worked. Gardz is extremely thin. It looks like watered-down milk and a little goes a long way. I would say a 1 litre tin would comfortably do two coats of a medium-sized room. In the tray it appears white (blue around the fringes) but dries clear. It is reasonably easy to see on the wall as you’re applying, and I’ve used both foam and regular rollers. It works with both, but the fluffy rollers are probably slightly better if you want a liberal application. It does have a tendancy to foam up slightly but you can just roll this out as you would with roller marks. The guidelines on the tin are about right and it is touch dry in about half an hour. It dries hard, to the point where if you rattle your fingernails against a patch you’ve treated you can hear the difference. I have applied filler on top of gardz and vice versa without any issues. In an ideal world you would fill first, but it doesn’t always work out like that. Gardz is also easy to clean up. It washes out of trays and rollers under a running tap quite easily. It does take a while but easier than emulsion. I’m conscious this review might come across as too agreeable, but I really do struggle to find fault with it. I’ve used 3 litres of this stuff across three different rooms and it’s worked. I’ve heard it derided as just expensive PVA, but it really isn’t. I’ve used watered down PVA before and it’s a blinking nightmare. If you have any issues similar to mine I strongly recommend giving Gardz a try.

Good sealant for issues with plaster walls and old wallpaper.
Be aware that initially after ordering two tins of Zinsser Gardz (waiting the best part of a week for delivery) I was actually sent by Amazon two tins of 'Zinsser Peel stop' instead which is a different sort of product entirely so this could be an issue for you too and the following review may not apply. After returning however I was sent the correct product by Amazon which can now be reviewed. 'Gardz' is appropriate for sealing any wall that has issues with it's plaster/drywall such as in my case. I did not need to leave it longer than 3 hours to dry and it duly also sealed in all the old wallpaper paste residue that was left over from the previous occupant's lousy attempt at papering. This residue could have caused issues with lining. Now the walls are properly sealed it provides a much better smooth base to apply wallrock fiber liner and then further wallpapering.
