Theory and More. Brilliant
This is a great learning tool with the added audio session. This series of book by Joseph Alexander is well explained. Clear diagrams with TABs for those who don't read Notation. I never stop learn with this series. Highly recommended.

Great music theory book for guitar players
I have being playing guitar for a great many years but have never taken the time to sit down and learn music theory in a structured way. This book has been fantastic in allowing me to do that. It has given me a great understanding of what and why I do things when playing and brings together all the small disjointed parcels of theory knowledge I had. The audio samples add a great dimension to the learning at home experience as well.I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to start learning practical music theory for guitar

Every guitarist should get one of these
I found this book really helpful. Like many guitarists of beginner/ intermediate ability I knew a few chords/ scales and their names. But I never quite got a real understanding how scales and chords were constructed, why they were called what they were and how it all fitted together. This book is excellent a really good grounding in an easy going style that is very digestible. The audio examples make such difference, I struggled with learning music cold from books but when you can hear examples of what you are learning it is much easier. I had a whole cavalcade of "Aha" and "Oh i seeee" moments in the first few chapters. Joseph Alexander's style is deceptively simple, and if I hadn't tried a bunch of other authors in the past I would think music books were all fairly similar. They are patently not and Joseph's are easily the best out there.

Recommended
I have decided to try to learn the guitar (again!) having tried several times over the last 15 years or so in between college, marriage, divorce, partying, kids etc.! I don't have the money or time to go to lessons so decided to get a book to help me understand the theory side of things so that my playing improves too. Anyway I read lots of reviews about lots of books and something drew me to this one. I must say so far it has been relatively easy to understand and the audio you download make a difference too. I am not that far into the book, but I know it will be of great benefit to me and I can't wait to finish it and get another one of Joseph's as I really like the style he writes it in. I would recommend.

Essential backgroud info
As someone who learned the guitar in the early 70's, as a way of joining a band, I knew that I was missing essential information. I was ok in those bygone time's but as I'm approaching my mid-fifties I really want to catch up on what I believe is missed and essential info for a subject I love. Having read the reviews of others I selected this book and I'm not disappointed. The book and supporting emails/music files really help and make you feel like a valued student. The course content is aimed at all levels and its main intention is to help anyone who wants to learn. In short - if this doesn't help you I don't think anything can. Just take your time and enjoy.

Essential key practical areas of music for the guitarist
Joseph strips down the musical theory into manageable chunks for the guitarist. To reinforce what you learn you get 180 minutes of live audio examples that gives the guitarist the link between knowledge and sound. This is a very well laid out book which does not seem crowded like some theory books. The examples given are guitar friendly and not some abstract theory that you can't relate to.The book is logically split into two parts.Part 1 explains the major scale construction which is the building block of the book and Part 2 gently guides you into scales and soloing which seems seamless and rewarding once you begin to listen to the live audio examples.Overall, cleverly constructed book that serves the practical guitarist who wants to learn and explore key guitar modern music theory.

Easy to follow book with downloadable sounds to back it up.
I have been playing guitar for a number of years but am completely self taught. Having recently retired I decided to try and learn more and extend my playing skills. I also wanted to understand more about music theory. I bought this book alongside two others by Joseph Alexander. I have started working through this book and have been surprised by how easy it has been to follow and very impressed that one can download the music from the link provided in the book. I have also gained a lot from the free lessons which Joseph sends out in his subsequent emails. I still have a way to go in this book and am looking forward to working my way through the others. I am sure the effort will pay off.

An excellent approach to music theory as it applys to the guitar.
Joseph Alexander has a good approach to writing in terms of making subjects easy to understand and approaching them from a practical perspective as the title says. In my opinion the point of any music theory book is to put the theory to use in terms of making music and it needs to be relevant to the instrument. Many books I've seen relate to music theory in general and can be piano or classically biased. This book explains the theory in easy to understand terms and applies this to the guitar so you can see how it all fits together in an easy to grasp approach. I would recommend this book to anybody who want to learn theory but be able to apply it as quickly as possible.
