For increased joy in your life - buy this...
I spent a long time trying to find a matching pair of fat and peanut feeders... From the descriptions provided of the 2 I settled on, they did not match and were from different Sellers and manufacturers. This one too does not weigh 2.8kg as described but is nonetheless heavy duty. Well, I am pleased to say that aside from the different tubes inside of these two, they are identical in colour, construction, effectiveness including the lid and top mechanisms which on the face of it look simple to affix but which in reality aren't that straight forward. However, once on and the feeders full, the lids remain closed and firmly in place. As with all things for outside use, they are subject to the elements but I have spent hundreds of pounds on feeders of all varieties over the years and these are the best yet. The added bonuses: 1) The little birds started taking to them within a day. 2) The squirrels, crows and magpies which used their ingenuity to sabotage all previous feeders and scare off the little birds, are no longer able to do so. I'm not cruel so fee this lot on the ground with electronic 'cat scarers' throughout the garden. 3) If you want joy, real joy added to your daily life - I would recommend these without hesitation! This is the matching peanut feeder also available from Amazon: Deluxe Heavy Duty Squirrel Proof Hanging Wild Bird Peanut Feeder (sorry, won't allow me to post the link). Enjoy!

STARLING PROOF!!! 100%
Absolutely brilliant fat ball bird feeder, the small birds are loving it and the starlings are hating it as they have NO access to the food

Squirrel-proof, not jackdaw-proof
We are fortunate to have over 30 types of birds visit our garden. But have jackdaws, some crows and rooks, and a squirrel who all scoff the fat balls and birdseed quickly, so the small birds don't get a look in. Have tried building a cage around the feeders with chicken wire, but the big birds just break it. Bought this and the squirrel-proof seed feeder to try to stop them. Squirrel: tried everything to get at the bird food, but couldn't get through the bars. It tried to open the lid by biting it, but as the lid twists on it couldn't open it. These feeders are definitely squirrel-proof. Some feeders similar to these have hinged lids, which squirrels might be able to open? Rooks and Crows: Can almost reach with their longer beaks, but struggle to hang on the side of the cage. They haven't bothered since we got these. Jackdaws: really clever birds. They have worked out how to hang on the cage and they can get their heads through the cage and just about reach the suet roll. If the cage was a bit wider they wouldn't be able to reach. But, it takes a lot of effort for them, so the suet rolls are lasting much much longer. They can't get at the seed in the seed feeder. Small birds: took a few days for them to work out how to get into the cage, but now sparrows, tits, finches, robins, etc, can get at the food. Not starlings. We have found the smaller birds are quite messy eaters, so some food does end up on the ground under the feeders, but the blackbirds, dunnocks, and jackdaws clear it up. So far the feeders have been good. We have wired the feeder handle to the feeding station to stop the big birds and squirrel from lifting the whole feeder off. Also keeps it on in high winds/storms. Easy to fill: just untwist the top and fill in situ.

A great feeder for sunflower hearts
First, I now own 4 of these feeders because I get a lot of goldfinches in my garden. So I think I can comment confidently about the pros and cons. Cons first: 1) A bit fiddly to clean because you have to unscrew the bottom two perches in order to remove the base. Honestly though, it only takes a minute. 2) The feeding holes are large enough for rain to get into when the weather is really bad. Not a lot, but the sunflowers go funny if you don't clean and dry the inside after heavy rain. If we get a week of rain I clean the feeders every couple of days. 3) The twist-off lids come quite loose. I've dropped a container full because the lid slipped off. When I buy a new one, I flatten the slots in the lid down a bit to make it a tighter fit. I don't want to make them seem a pain but I did want to point out the things I have found a bit of a nuisance. Pros: 1) The lids are wide enough that most rain is kept off of the cylinder with the feeding holes. 2) Once you take the bottom perches off, the feeder is easy to clean, especially with a bottle brush 3) They are sturdy. My feeding station has been blown over multiple times and the feeders survived 4) Goldfinches love feeding from them. Chaffinches and bluetits too.. Oh, and even the occasional starling and robin use them too. 5) Perches are a great size for finches and tits while being unusable by pigeons and other large birds. I have a constant stream of birds at these feeders, which is why I replaced a couple of seed feeders with two more of these feeders recently. I am sure your birds will appreciate them, wherever you live.

Broken base ring
I was pleased with it at first, seemed sturdy. But then the metal ring at the bottom of the tube that attaches to the base came out and wouldn’t stay back in. I’ve superglued it back in and hope that works for a while. The feeder then fell off the tree branch cracking the tube, I’ve fixed with masking tape and hope it holds for a while, but that was probably the squirrels’ fault knocking off the feeder!

Last (nearly) Forever
Have used these for many years. These are absolutely the best for ensuring only the small birds can get to the fat balls. The very greedy starlings are completely foxed. Had my last ones for 10 years and still going strong!

Poor design
Initially seemed great with a strong, nice design. Then after about 3 weeks of use woke to find the feeder had come apart while hooked on the feeding pole. Thought it was a one off but happened a further 3 times. Was filling through the top but the design allows the whole thing to come apart (presumably for cleaning). Means when it swings in the wind or attracts aggressive birds (starlings) the bottom with resting area for birds comes undone, falls on the floor and dumps suet pellets everywhere which are quickly eaten by starlings and/or pigeons!! Returned for a refund and ordered a stronger caged version which only opens from the top. Such a shame as seemed a good buy.

Great solid feeder.
I bought this feeder to deter the numerous jackdaws descending onto my feeders and demolishing fatballs within minutes. It works! They can't reach the fatballs and have stopppurchaseed trying. So pleased with my !! Highly recommend for anyone who is plagued by squirrels and greedy jackdaws

Gutes Produkt

Si spera sopravviva bene all'inverno
