These are so simple to use and really easy to clean. Apparently you should change These monthly, that is absolute rubbish, they can last much longer. It will be obvious when to replace the filter media. I didn't realise at first that the centre is carbon so bear this in mind regarding any treatments that you have in your tank as this would stop them working properly. I have bought a sheet of foam media as used in pond filters and am going to cut It to size for a seriously cheaper alternative. Previously I have removed the used carbon and filled the gap with a small piece of spare media to increase the good bacteria. The cartridge is very easy to remove and replace. One thing to look out for is the actual filter slipping down in the tank as the suckers aren't the best. It will still work but will greatly decrease the oxygenation of the water, It is worth showing the other half etc how to rectify this as It is very easy.

Good product have bought in the past also

These are fairly good filters. However that being said they need cleaning many times a week and they usually get full of gunk. I would recommend changing the filter sponge every other month or every month. Always go one size up from what they actually say because they can sometimes lack power, but they are better then Jewel filters.

I used these filters for about 3 months and they were fine, went on holiday in July and came back to find Fish tank with black water and all fish dead. I had to completely clean tank and replace the filter and the new fish are fine. However I am concerned the filter failed for whatever reason.
