Long Pepper Indonesian Gourmet Whole Peppercorns Piper Retrofractum 46g

Okay, this is just best. It seems like every single peppercorn was handpicked because they're all fat and long and give the absolute best taste. I just wish the price was smaller. Otherwise absolutely fantastic. I've been throwing them into the the steel grinder manual coffee mill and spraying them over freshly cooked dishes. Highly recommended.

Superb long pepper from Indonesia, ideal for all pepper applications. If you’ve never cooked with it, it is like black peppercorns on steroids. It has more strength, more spice, more complex pepper flavour and is a great alternative to standard peppercorns. The picture shows that even though the packet is 46g, you get dozens of long corns to toast and then grind up.

When you don't use curry powder or paste. Stock, coconut milk, whole cinnamon, star anise, these long peppers, onions, garlic, scotch bonnet chillies, salt, pepper, sugar, fresh bay leaf, coriander stalks/roots and either saffron or tumeric. That's it apart from your protein of choice. These long peppers are superb quality, have a fabulous aroma, exquisite flavour and, bearing in mind that they are the Rolls Royce of long peppers, they're top value for money.

These were a lovely suprise when they arrived, different to the normal Pepper you buy in the shops; Well packaged, and some useful information on the packaging.

Decided to try Long Pepper after seeing Tom Alcott of Peppermongers on one of Nigel Slater's TV programmes. I tried all of the Asian/Chinese stores here in Edinburgh, none of them had a clue what I was talking about. Given the time I spent hunting, it would have been quicker just to order thru Amazon as I eventually did. Arrived two days after I placed the order. Tom demonstrated a version of "Long Pepper Cream" with soft fruit on Nigel's show. I'd used ground black with strawberries before, but this was a completely different beast. The intense heat is superb, and I still haven't figured out all of the underlying flavours. Got a long list of recipes to try, and looking forward to them all.
