I am looking to do some tarot spells that require different coloured candles but I can not have real ones right now. can these be painted?

White is a substitute for all colours in magickal workings.

Can I use these candles outdoors or will they melt in the sunlight?

Hello dear I recommend using LED candles at home. The outer shell is truly paraffin wax. It will melt at high temperatures. Of course, it will melt when exposed to direct sunlight to a certain temperature.

Is the battery compartment secured with a screw

No, not with a screw. It is secure and you can open it without any tools.
