Great clay
Easy to work with although it can take a while to warm it up in your hands to make it soft. Holds detail well and has easy to follow instructions on the packaging to bake it. Ive been using it for a while and have made a few statues using it including my latest one of Robocop. I find the hardest part is trying to think of something to make but once you do you can take as long as you want to make it as you can keep working on it and making changes until you bake it. Its nice and firm too so you wont lose the details you've already done just by holding it to do the other side like you can with the softer clay but if its for young kids they may have trouble softening it up first. I would definitely recommend this.

Harder clay to create finer detail but still a little softness
This 'Firm Grey' Super Sculpey clay purchase is the result of the 'Beige' clay being a little to soft for my liking - although a nice clay also. I am trying to clay very fine detail in small figurines and with little experience or know how I really can appreciate what a fantastic clay this is. The extra firmness does make it much easier to work with to create detail and cut away what you don't need. I've used clay that you have to keep wet in the past but I found out late about Super Sculpey and gave it ago. The freedom to just have this clay out in the open and play around with it as you please is a very bizarre experience - it doesn't come sealed in the box so that's all you need to know how nice and firm it stays. There is no mess and it doesn't get clogged up on your fingers. Oven baking various pieces I've been working on has been a breeze, on a very low heat (exactly as it says on the packaging) for 14 minutes I think and that's it. I've been laying my clay bits on tin foil directly in the oven and that produces results perfect every time. It's just a little smelly (hardly smell anything) with a fine odour when in the oven but should be no problem with anyone in your household.

Firm means firm, just as advertised.
I admit I am very new to using polymer clay I ordered 'firm', I practiced with the clay to get a good feel of the flexibility. I have mixed firm with my original white sculpey to give myself a more medium consistency- has worked wonders and is not so tough to push ad pull about! Though I can see how firm really holds its shape well. I would recommend this clay if you have a harder touch and are use to working with denser materials, or to mix with another polymer clay to create a more suitable clay for what you're working on. For the future I am happy I'm now more informed on the sculpey brand, and am aware of hardness variants My Sculpey box did come to me unsealed, the box was flapped open but the outer postal box had protected everything, so no harm done to the quality of the clay. I know that this clay will be addictive as they are lovely to work with. Overall brill quality and fast delivery, cheers!

Mixed feelings towards it
When i got the Sculpey it was very, very dried out. Rock hard. Almost as hard as a brick. I had to soften it down and the process is not anywhere near easy on the hands and it is quite time consuming, due to the fact that i don't own a pasta machine. But after softening it with some oil i can say i'm pretty pleased with it. Holds details exceptionally and rakes do wonders with it. But it is also sort of crumbly when smoothing it down with my fingers. I recommend a 50/50 mix with Super Sculpey Living Doll. This way it's softer but still hard enough to get good detail. But even as is i can say it's a very good sculpting material. As long as it's not dried out to begin with.

Best clay around
One of the best clay i have used! Amazing item and i was able to sculpt a little head with it. Its really firm and i would reccomend to use for sculptures! Its very firm when you first use so i would reccomend to roll out with a pin or you hands or use SuperSculpey clay softner.

Perfect for variety of projects
First time using polymer clay, takes a bit of manipulation but is soon very malleable and easily smoothed. Great for detailing and fine fur texture. I used on both a realistic dog model for a friend and small stylized christmas ornaments. Worked out great! Once fired in the oven easily painted. Fine areas can be brittle once fired also. Bear in mind if the clay is not sealed for several months it will dry out and you will have to use mineral oil/ baby oil to rework it.

A High Quality Polymer For A High Level Of Detail
This is by far my favourite Sculpey polymer clay. As I make highly detailed sculptures it has just the right firmness to allow the very fine level of details my sculptures demand. And yet it is very easy to work with. A few passes through my pasta maker and it is soft enough to start working with. If you plan to make simple, low detail sculptures you can probably go with just about any of Sculpey's polymer clays but if you, like me, want a high detail finish Sculpey Firm will make the process a lot less frustrating and give you a much more enjoyable experience.

This is far too soft to be Firm lol
Have been ordering from here for years. Only had a problem twice both times being that though packaged as Super Sculpey Firm itโs FAR too soft to be. Itโs Medium.

Excellent Sculpting Clay
Super Sculpey Firm and Medium Blend feel and act more like 'regular' Plasticine modeling clay than any other polymer clays that I've tried. Compared to the Med. Blend, Firm is harder to knead at first. After it's conditioned, it's soft to work with, however. It can take a little more handling without deforming than the medium blend can, it can hold a little more of its own weight, and it carves a little better too. It blends just as excellently as medium blend. Although it is stiffer at first, after it's conditioned I'd have a hard time telling it from medium blend. So much so that I'm sure I'd get them mixed if I was using them at the same time. Since it is stiff at first, if you don't have a pasta machine to roll it with, or a significant other with larger hands than you, I suggest using the 'two handed method' to condition the clay. Simply cup one hand over the other and let your fingers help each other to push and knead the clay. So, two thumbs push against eight fingers braced against each other, and so on and so forth. I know it sounds childlike and simple, but you'll be surprised how much easier this 'two hand' kneading technique is on your hands. Have fun sculpting! Carol
