What a Bad Dream (A Golden Look-Look Book)

I feel like every house should have this book!! I love this book! It is so creative and every kid I have ever read it to gets sucked into the story. It is so creative and has real life elements in it. I had this nook as a kid so it brings back memories. I would definitely recommend this book if anyone is wondering if it is worth the buy. It is!

We love the critters books. This one is one of his favorites. I grew up on these, and knew what we would be reading. It’s fun, not too long for a 2 year old, and an easy read. You can use it as a tool to explain bad dreams.

My daughter saw the picture for this book on the back of one of our other Little Critter books and begged for it because she thinks he is making a silly face in the mirror. She frequently wakes up in the middle of the night from having bad dreams, so I thought this would help. In the book Little Critter falls asleep and dreams that he drinks a potion that makes him grown fangs and bat wings so he scares everyone off and gets to live by himself and do whatever he wants- stay up late, doesn't go to school, eats pizza for every meal. It is fun for awhile but then he realizes it is lonely to not have his friends to play with and his family to love him. So when he wakes up he is happy he isn't dreaming anymore and doesn't want to drink any magic potions. The book is cute, easy to read, daughter loves it. I don't think it really helped at all with her bad dreams though. It's more about appreciating your family and the people that you love, even if you have to follow rules and have responsibilities.

Very cute and funny, this is my daughter's favorite Little Critter book. She loves it! This is sort of like vicarious wish fulfillment for kids. Little Critter dreams that he doesn't have a bedtime, doesn't take a bath, eats pizza for dinner, etc and basically runs amok doing all the things that he's not normally allowed to do. This is great for kids because they wish sometimes they didn't have to do the things they know they need to do each day and they get to watch Little Critter doing it and it helps satisfy that a little bit. (Sort of like when grown-ups watch whatever guilty pleasure tv show they turn on after putting the kiddos to bed) In the end, Little Critter wakes up from his dream and realizes that his reality (a loving family) is better than having all his wishes granted in a dream.

All my kids loved this growing up. Yes, it's kind of scary, but I read to my kids before they can read themselves, so it gives us a chance to talk through what they are looking at. I can talk about how silly his dream is and laugh at the "scariness". It helps them manage their own bad dreams and gives them someone else to relate to. The parents complaining about this book crack me up. Stop sheltering your children from harmless things, like a storybook, and give them the tools to cope with life and "scary" things!

The Mayer book series is a great series for children, my son is going on 4 and just loves to read them with me! They have combined a great story with a lesson - it was just a bad dream.... This is my son's favorite book - although he says it is a bit scary....he has almost all the books and I highly recommend them!

This book was one of my favourites growing up and is now my nephews new favourite. These books are classic and great for young readers. They are also well priced.

Mercer Mayer books always deliver a wholesome story time for children. The pictures are vivid and always hide little critters amongst the pages that children love to find. I read and cherished these books as a child and now have the joy of passing them on to my children.

Little Critter is among my favourite books for children. He was mine as a child and I've carried on the tradition with my son who is now 22 and my daughter who is soon to be 4 (and is to be the recipient of these books.)

My daughter grew up with this series, and I have been adding the newer books to her collection. I have been buying these books for my grandson he just loves the critters
