is there a need to use this in conjunction with say lemon oil when replacing strings or could this do both jobs?

I use lem oil only on the neck and frets. The fast fret keeps strings cleaner. I find the lem oil binds up the strings after time. Do not use the oil on new strings.

Does it help to remove rust of the strings?

No it won't. Would possibly prevent rust if applied frequently as a prevention. New strings required.

Is it safe to use on a guitar with maple neck.

100% safe. I use it on my maple tele after every play. Would recommend for lengthening string life/fretboard conditioning.

Is this usable for lubricating the nut and bridge saddles?

I use graphite from a pencil on the nut and saddles when I changed strings, fast fret is excellent for the strings before and after you play :)
