Pop Up Pirate is one of those games that almost everyone remembers, and it’s great to see that it’s just as fun now as it ever was. We bought it for our five-year-old, who loves getting everynoe together for a quick game - it’s often one of the first things she reaches for when friends or family are around. The build quality feels reassuringly solid and sturdy, very much in keeping with the versions many of us grew up with. The barrel and pirate are robust enough to cope with repeated use, and the swords slot in smoothly. Each round only takes a couple of minutes, which makes it ideal for shorter attention spans and easy to fit in between other activities. Despite its simplicity, it has great replayability. The anticipation of not knowing which sword will make the pirate pop never seems to wear off, and it consistently gets laughs from both kids and adults. When you’re done, everything packs away neatly, making it easy to store without losing pieces. A simple, well-made game that’s stood the test of time and still works brilliantly as a fast, inclusive family favourite.

Purchased for a Mario-obsessed 2 year old and he loved it! Simple game, easy to play for toddlers and young children, but still good fun for all the family! The Super Mario Pop Up game is well-made with good quality material, looks sturdy enough to survive the antics of a toddler without breaking easily. Fun and exciting game for little ones – Mario suddenly leaps out of the pipe when triggered. A modern twist on old classics like Buckaroo. Good value for money, doesn't take up too much storage space (mid size box) but doesn't flat pack unfortunately. A great gift for young children who love Mario and board games! Bonus is it gets them away from the screens.

Rather a disappointment as despite loading in the pirate he didn't always pop up even with Avery sword inserted. Maybe we were doing something wrong but it wasn't that much fun

Game works great! My 3 year old loves it.

If you are not familiar with it, this is the Hello Kitty version of the old pop-up surprise game. You slide the bows into the barrel one at a time, give it a spin to randomize which slot is the trigger, and at some point Hello Kitty pops out the top like a jack in the box. You are on your toes the whole time waiting for it, and it moves fast. A few things I liked. It takes no batteries at all, nothing to ever replace, which I appreciate. It does not take much brain power, so it is easy to pick up. The box says ages 4 and up, but the gameplay is simple enough that I think even a two or three year old could play it just fine. The build quality seems great too. Nothing feels cheap or flimsy. The Hello Kitty figure feels solid and so do the bows. It is a lot of fun. We played about five rounds and I won every round that had a winner, which my wife did not appreciate one bit. She kept trying to beat me before she finally gave up. A couple of things worth pointing out. In one round, Hello Kitty never popped out at all, even after the last bow went in. It was very anti-climactic. I am not sure if that is just how the randomization can go sometimes or if it was a defect, but it is worth mentioning. Also, if you look closely, the bows are really shaped like swords. In the original pirate version of this game they are swords, and here they have been rebranded as bows to fit Hello Kitty (see photo). I have not played it with my grandkids yet, but knowing them, I think they will love it, at least for ten minutes before they move on to the next thing.
