Western Digital WD3003FZEX Performance 3 TB 3.5-Inch Hard Drive - Black

I do a lot of photo and video editing, so I use this drive as my video and photo storage drive. This Western Digital Black drive is relatively fast (for a Hard Disk Drive), mainly due to the 128MB cache this model has over the relatively standard 7200RPM drive spin speed. It is loud though! Noticeably louder than my 1TB Western Digital Green drive I use to use. It literally sounds like a geiger counter. As with all Western Digital hard disk drives you get absolutely solid reliability, I still have two old Western Digital Raptor drives working since 2003. Where as the ultra fast SSD's are clearly the way forward for having your operating system and commonly used software on, there's always still a need for a second larger capacity hard disk drive to use for storing large files or backing up important files and family photos, as they still beat the Solid State Drives in regards to life span and being able to recover your data if they do fail, which is what I use this drive for.

1st Class, fast, not particularly noisy, running at about 36c at the moment but it is in among 4 other HDD's all stuck together, but it is among the warmest there. The size and the reliability and reputation of the WD Black HDD's was my reason for buying this, and it was easy to install, almost 'plug and play' in its simplicity.

This is not OEM thankfully. Such a great price I thought it might have been. I immediately registered it on WD site and got five years warranty. Arrived quickly and installed it in my PC flawlessly. Some people say these are noisy - well I have this and three 4TB WD blacks - my rig is pretty much silent. I cannot hear this drive so there you go. Good service all together.

so, i first i bought one. i wanted to buy the 4 tb but did not afford it, and not all reviews were good. one must use this hard drive for a few years to be able to appreciate weather the significant extra money is worth spending or not. i bought a second one after a few months and so far, both work fine. when ssd s will be as large and affordable i will get rid of all mechanical drives! pros - quiet - fast - no problems (yet) cons - pricey - is not an ssd - spin up time (not a problem for me, but for others might be) i recommend it, although more time is necessary to properly evaluate these hard drives for reliability.

As others have stated, its not quite the 6TB you would think, however if you have any experience with HDD's and / or building systems, you would know this. That said, it was way louder than expected, in fact, its the loudest thing in my system, by far, (i should have researched how loud it is, i am aware of that. I have used WD drives for the better half of a decade and found them all incredibly quiet, i have not experienced anything this noisy for many years, again, my fault for not doing the research and assuming). If you have a water cooled system and consider quietness a priority, look elsewhere. In conclusion: Size as expected, audible volume a disappointment (but my fault). Hence 4 stars.

It spins, it hums, it stores copious amounts of unnecessary data - love it. I bought this to upgrade the storage drive of a iMac 2011. Installing 2 SSD for the operating system. It is too noisey and makes read sounds while idle (its pure storage so should make none)

Its probably unrelated but recently it stopped publishing its temp/voltage on Corsair Link 4 monitoring software. For a time, it was the power supply(AX860i) which stopped publishing its stats. I am not a professional pc builder. I sort of jury-rigged the 1080ti SeaHawk fan on the floor of the case with a bracket held by gravity and a single unbolted screw to the side of case. Several months on, nothing has gone wrong. That single screw is hasn’t failed. It also helps that the fan is maglev, thus no vibration. The hard drive has not fail. It has served and I happy with it. It seemed like the best value / price trade off, and had a good benchmark on passmark.com. That might have been its ancestor but I am sure it has inherited.

Used this as a secondary hard drive to store my games as my OS ssd was only 256GB. It works extremely well with decent transfer speeds (about 100mb/s) which is useful for games. Having a water cooled PC the noise from this HDD is quiet noticeable, which for me was a problem so I switched to SSD as I am a silent freak but everyone else not an issue.

I have used Western Digital hard drives for years including the black models for desktop and laptop computers. 5 year warranty. #FZEX models are the current models, these have 4k sectors and have for some time now . A good thing for modern computers. Linux it is supported and has been for some time now, however you have to ensure you align the partition correctly for a 4k sector drive> Usually using Gparted align to MiB . This drive is nearly a year old now as I write this review. Of course no issues at all. With this newest version of the Black model, it is faster then the previous generation Black models. it is the fastest mech. drive ive used. The WD Velociraptor , 10k RPM drive in some ways is slightly faster in benchmarks , however the difference for most , in real world use is is negligible and worth the larger capacity and better price per GB the Black model offers vs the Velociraptor or enterprise RE4 drives. The RE4 of course has its own advantages , it is a enterprise type drive for constant use. This model offers the best value to gamers , video editors or any applications that requires heavy disk i/o or sustained disk usage for longer periods of time. Well worth the extra cost compared to other brands costing less, offering a similar capacity , with " high" performance listed in its features. If you need more space then a SSD can offer at a reasonable price per GB , this is the best workstation class high performance WD drive. If you have not owned a black model drive before the performance difference will be a significant improvement with noticeable gains in speed.. Some people im sure have noted this drive makes more noise then most mechanical drives , however its not a ticking or other odd sound , it only makes mild noise when its being wokred hard.

Il disco è davvero veloce, come tutti i dispositivi di memorizzazione puramente rotazionali di fascia alta. Inizialmente ho cominciato a preoccuparmi sentendo dei click strani mentre il disco era in idle ma... Tranquilli, a differenza degli altri, per questo qui è normale! I click avvengono per l'algoritmo di wear leveling che spostano la testina. ================================== Comunque, ATTENZIONE! Il disco supporta WDC Advanced Format! Non è una "cosa in più" ma un vero e proprio OBBLIGO: da esperienze fatte da vari amici, se questi non vengono formattati con un corretto allineamento delle partizioni, a parte un importante decremento prestazionale, il disco avrà vita breve! Quindi, in caso usiate Linux, attenzione all'allineamento! Nel caso usiate Windows, non formattate il disco durante l'installazione! Usate la utility di WD! ================================ Comunque, ho visto persone lamentarsi della rumorosità del disco. Mah, di nuovo, formattatelo come si deve! Il mio è bello silenzioso, tanto che neanche lo sento! (e.. Il PC è raffreddato a liquido, totalmente silenzioso, non è che il rumore viene coperto da altro!)

耐久性のみ不明ですので星４つで。 表記通りのマイチェン後2FZWXが来ました。 従来のBLACKより高速化＆省電力化されているとのこと。 Windows10で通常フォーマット（アロケーション規定値） フォーマット時間は約8.5時間 空の状態で測定しましたが、公表通りの速さの様です。 RED PROと悩みましたが、主に動画編集データでの使用の為、 少しでも高速なものと思い、BLACKを選択。 キャッシュ容量も128MBで同じ。 回転数も7200rpmで同じ。 更に高容量8TB、10TBを、また低発熱、耐久性を望むならRED PRO。 速度重視ならBLACK。 ただ、マイチェン後で省電力化されていますので、発熱もマシになっているかと 思われます。 アイドル、作業中共に39℃から動く様子がありません？ 速度測定結果を貼っておきますのでご参考に。
